The Opportunity

 

The successful candidate will be a part of the Library and Learning Resources team and will provide leadership as well as manage public services offered by the Dubai campus library including the information literacy program. 

 

Overseeing the work of four library faculty and eight staff members, the librarian will also teach in the information literacy program, provide reference service and participate in the collection development. He/She will also be required to participate in the library administration and represent the library to the public and the university in the absence of the CIO. 

 

The Responsibilities

·         Manages the Dubai campus and the work of 12 library faculty and staff to ensure quality library service and instruction to the academic community.

·         Hires, trains, motivates and evaluates library faculty and staff to provide professional, user-focused services.

·         Actively participates on the library administration team.

·         Teaches and provides support for information literacy, including training and program design.

·         Encourages faculty to help students improve information literacy skills and use library resources to maximum advantage.

·         Meets with faculty regularly to discuss and understand their requirements, enabling the library to serve their needs in the best possible manner.

·         Ensures that technology is used as an appropriate tool for information access and is leveraged by the library to provide wide access in a cost-effective fashion.

·         Represents the library to visitors and the external community.

·         Participates in the collection development initiatives including the library liaison program.

·         Maintains an attractive, well-functioning library facility that invites users to avail themselves of the space and resources and oversee maintenance of the facility and its redesign.

·         Offer input on budget, resources and infrastructure required for the library to provide the best services to students and faculty.

·         Implements policies as determined by university and the CIO and maintains professional awareness and close links with academic libraries in the UAE, the region and internationally.

·         Demonstrates professional growth and contribution through research, publishing, paper presentations and service to the profession.

 

The Requirements

 

The ideal candidate must possess a Masters degree in Library Science from a program accredited by the American Library Association or a recognized equivalent degree and at least five years of library experience with increasing management responsibilities, preferably in an academic library or an equivalent combination of education, skills or experience.

Preferred Requirements

·         Demonstrated success in leadership assignments and success in developing others.

·         Strong interpersonal skills and commitment to customer service.

·         Experience with and commitment to information literacy and reference service.

·         Demonstrated knowledge of information technology and administrative skills that translate plans into reality.

·         High level writing skills that produce clear reports and persuasive proposals.

·         Ability to travel between Abu Dhabi and Dubai.
