The Florida International University Libraries seeks an energetic, user-focused librarian for the position of Business Librarian. Position responsibilities include providing specialized instruction sessions, contributing to collection management activities, partnering between the libraries' institutional repository and College of Business faculty, and participating in other activities and projects of the Libraries. The Business Librarian reports to the Head of Information & Research Services in the Green Library.

As a member of the Information & Research Services department, the successful candidate will provide general reference and research assistance, including contributing to virtual reference services, and participating in the libraries' information literacy and instruction program.
Some evenings and weekends are required.
As a library faculty member, the Business Librarian is expected to participate in professional development, research, and service activities in order to meet the Libraries' and University's requirements for promotion
Required Qualifications:
  • MLS from an ALA accredited program or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years experience with reference and instructional services in business, econnomics, financial, or related disciplines.

[LIBJOBS] United States--Texas--Houston--Asian Studies Curator

Rice University, a private university located in Houston, Texas, is seeking a highly motivated librarian committed to building academic library collections and services tailored to the present and future needs of our community.  The successful candidate will work to build library collections for the recently created Chao Center for Asian Studies, including assisting with library services, and working with the staff of the Chao Center and Fondren Library to promote Rice University’s developing program.  The successful candidate will contribute to primary resource collections, including digitization projects, in Fondren’s special collections.  Position reports to AUL for Collections.

 

Requirements include: ALA-accredited MLS; minimum of 2 years demonstrated experience in collection development in an academic setting, fluency in English and Chinese languages including reading knowledge of classical Chinese, demonstrated experience and facility with digital content.  Preferred: second advanced degree in relevant humanities or social sciences discipline.

 

Salary/benefits: This is a contract position, funded for 5 years, with a possibility of extension. $52,000 minimum; no state or local income tax; 21 benefit days; 8 study days; TIAA/CREF and Fidelity; health and life insurance; tuition waiver.

Hospitality Librarian

The Florida International University Libraries seek a creative, collaborative, user-focused librarian for the position of Hospitality Librarian.  This is a new position responsible for outreach, informational and instructional services, user support, and collection development as the liaison for academic programs in the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management. 

Position Description: 

This position reports to the Head of Information & Research Services in the Hubert Library on our Biscayne Bay Campus. As a member of the Information & Research Services Department, the successful candidate will provide general reference and research assistance, including virtual reference services, and participate in the libraries' information literacy and instruction program. Liaison responsibilities include providing specialized instruction sessions, contributing to the scholarship efforts of the students and faculty in the Chaplin School of Hospitality and Tourism Management, contributing to collection management activities, partnering between the Libraries' institutional repository and the Chaplin School, and participating in other activities and projects of the Libraries. This position will require working evening and weekend assignments. As a library faculty member, the Hospitality Librarian is expected to participate in professional development, research, and service activities in order to meet the Libraries' and University's requirements for promotion. 

Required Qualifications:

  • MLS from an ALA-accredited program or equivalent.
  • 1 to 2 years' experience with reference and instructional services in hospitality, business, economics, financial, or related disciplines
  • Experience using, and teaching others to use, business resources, including web resources, databases, etc.
  • Strong service commitment
  • Ability to work both independently and collaboratively across disciplines in a service-oriented environment
  • Understanding of emerging technological trends and conversant with web technologies.
  • Excellent interpersonal, oral and written communication skills

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Ability to develop and deliver online library instruction and online and face-to-face  research support services to the Chaplin School's students and faculty
  • Provide research consultations to students, faculty, and staff in the areas of hospitality and tourism management, in both national and international spheres. 
  • Advanced degree or coursework in hospitality, business, or a related field.

Purpose of the job:

Responsibilities:

  • Perform technical planning, development, and implementation of Web-based applications and interfaces, including mobile applications, to provide a seamless access environment to end users.
  • Work collaboratively with technical and non-technical library staff to provide general web development guidance and expertise, and to implement enhancements to the Libraries website and electronic resources discovery and access systems.
  • Support the ongoing development of the Libraries software infrastructure, including, but not limited to, institutional repositories (DSpace, and others), content management systems, web applications, and other library systems.
  • Collaborate with other technology partners.
  • Work with teams to manage system administration, web/application server administration and database server administration, maintaining up-to-date system documentation and managing code in a version-control system.
  • Investigate new technologies and software applications.

Required Qualifications:

 

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field.  Three years of experience developing web-based applications may be substituted for a bachelor's degree.


·         Demonstrated proficiency:

o   developing web applications using one or more of the following programming languages: PHP, Ruby, Python, Java, and

o   experience with one or more of the following:  HTML5, CSS3, XML, XSL, Javascript, and

o   working with relational databases such as MySQL or Postgresql.

·         Strong customer service attitude; enthusiasm for working in a collaborative team-oriented environment

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·         Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, or related field. 

·         Demonstrated experience working with any of the following:

o   a Content Management System such as Drupal, Joomla, or WordPress

o   repository applications (e.g., DSpace, Fedora, ContentDM)

o   team-based development using version control systems such as Git or Subversion

 

·         Knowledge of any of the following:

o   LDAP, Shibboleth or other common methods of authentication

o   Semantic Web and Linked Data concepts and technologies
