Job Purpose:

The Copyright and Licensing Librarian provides leadership and expertise in matters of copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues for the Qatar National Library.

 

Key Result Areas:

·         Responsible for library intellectual property policies and procedures

·         Advising library personnel on intellectual property issues relating to library collections, services, and digital projects

·         Works with staff in all QNL departments to develop policy frameworks that facilitate digital initiatives and resource acquisition

·         Monitors all legislative developments affecting copyright and other intellectual property matters

·         Participates in appropriate committees and programs both locally and internationally

·         Serves as the primary resource on fair use and other copyright issues

·         Advises members of the community about issues related to the works they write or otherwise create and appropriate use of works created by others

·         Educates users and staff about copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues through workshops, websites, consultations, etc.

·         Actively participates in professional associations

·         Serves on various library committees

·         Perform related duties as required

·         Participates in local, regional, and international professional activities

·         This position includes, but is not limited to, other duties as required and defined by the scope, purpose, and spirit of the institution and are not always indicative of the title and grade of the position.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

·         ALA accredited MLS or foreign equivalent advanced degree in library or information science

·         Three years relevant library experience, preferred

·         Demonstrated knowledge of copyright, licensing, and other intellectual property issues

·         Familiarity with new and traditional modes of communication

·         Excellent organizational, communication, and interpersonal skills; strong service orientation and commitment to the profession

·         Recent experience with or knowledge of digital resources, licensing and other contract issues

·         Keep up with the trends in the commercial and scholarly publishing industries

·         Ability to multi-task

·         Knowledge of Arabic an asset

Job Purpose:

To provide quantitative and qualitative data from internal and external systems for use in planning and decision making, and to support electronic resource management and acquisitions functions.

 

Key Result Areas:

·         Analyze and report quantitative / qualitative data gathered from various sources, in particular collection data, resource usage data, prices, and projection data

·         Process acquisitions according to established procedures

·         Develop, implement, review, and maintain information systems to collect, store, process and disseminate data for internal decision-making and external reporting

·         Prepare monthly collection development, access, expenditure, usage and other statistical data required for the QNL Score Card and Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)

·         Regularly engage and interact with staff and customers through formal and informal channels to determine and highlight data and reporting needs and the Library’s effectiveness in meeting those needs; as well as recommending ways of meeting identified needs

·         Provide consultation, training, and documentation to support library staff in the collection and reporting on all required data (using local, industry, professional association, publisher and vendor sources)

·         Manage data collection for annual reports, including the QNL annual report and other corporate and governmental statistic reporting requirements

·         Other tasks as assigned

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

·         Bachelor’s degree in Business Administration, Library information Sciences, or a related field

·         MLIS or other appropriate graduate degree is an advantage

·         3 years of relevant experience. Experience in library technical services or electronic resources information services preferable

·         Experience with quantitative and qualitative assessment methodologies; familiarity with statistical software applications packages such as SPSS in addition to excellent capability with productivity software such as MS Excel and the other MS Office applications

·         Effective communication and presentation skills

·         Strong organizational skills and attention to detail

·         Excellent writing skills – ability to draft / edit a variety of written reports and communications and articulate ideas clearly and concisely; proficiency in Arabic a plus

Position

 

Princeton University Library invites nominations and applications for the position of Head Librarian, Science Library and Director of Scholarly Communications. The successful candidate will be responsible for the overall direction of the Lewis Science Library, the Furth Plasma Physics Library, and the Scholarly Communications Office. The Science Library grouping, staffed by 8 librarians, 10 members of the support staff, and student assistants, share a collections budget of more than $5,000,000. The Scholarly Communications Office, located in the Lewis Library and staffed by 1 librarian, collaborates with the Office of Information Technology to support the entire campus through management of the Princeton Open Access Repository and services for research data management and scholarly communications. Depending on candidate’s qualifications, some science subject liaison work may also be part of the Head’s responsibility.

 

The Lewis Library, designed by architect Frank Gehry and opened in late 2008, provides the services and collections for Astrophysics, Chemistry, Ecology and Evolutionary Biology, Geosciences, Mathematics, Molecular Biology, Physics, and Psychology; it is also the home of the University Library's Map and Geospatial Information Center. The Furth Plasma Physics Library is housed at the Princeton Plasma Physics Laboratory, supported by the U.S. Department of Energy and located a short distance from the main campus.

 

As the Head Librarian, the incumbent oversees all aspects of the science library’s activity by working with the staff to develop innovative services tailored to Princeton's busy research community while also overseeing the traditional areas of user education, reference and research consultation, collection development, and facilities management. As Director, Scholarly Communications, the incumbent provides leadership and works collaboratively with other Princeton librarians, the University's Office of Information Technology, the Office of the Dean for Research, and the Office of the General Counsel. The Head Librarian contributes to campus-wide library projects and represents Princeton in relevant regional, national, and international projects and forums.

 

Qualifications

 

Required: An ALA-accredited Master of Library Science degree or equivalent combination of education and professional library experience; at least 5 years relevant experience in a library that supports science teaching and research; ability to provide leadership and direction in a research library, as demonstrated by supervisory, planning, and problem-solving experience; experience with scholarly communications issues and open access repositories; in-depth knowledge of research tools in the sciences and the work habits of scientists; experience in introducing new technologies to library users; demonstrated ability to work cooperatively with others and to foster teamwork; strong oral and written communication skills.

Preferred: Undergraduate or graduate degree in a science or engineering subject. Experience in implementing and supporting open access policies and/or repositories and/or research data management services.

Instruction/Reference Librarian

The Pollak Library has a robust library instruction program that emphasizes student centered learning and utilizes state-of-the-art information technology in classroom settings.

 

Position

Participate in the Library’s extensive instruction program, including planning, teaching, and assessing library sessions for CSUF classes and workshops in basic and specialized electronic resources. Provide reference assistance to CSUF students, faculty, staff, and community.  Serve as subject consultant to academic departments.  Create and maintain content for library website. Work on specified projects as needed in other units of the library. 

 

Qualifications

Required:

 

  • Master’s degree in library and/or information science from an ALA- accredited institution or equivalent institution by the time of appointment.
  • Experience and/or potential in developing effective Library instructions sessions.
  • Current reference experience, including the use of academic electronic resources.
  • Effective oral, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively and effectively with cross-organizational teams.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multi-cultural environment within and outside the Library. 
  • Availability to work some weeknights and weekends.

Availability: one year long position currently available

Hours: 20 hours per week. Some evening and weekend hours required.

Salary: $15/hour.

Overview:
Reporting to the Director of the Information Commons, the WIC Desk Intern handles core student assistance activities. Primary requirements are the ability to work independently, comfort working with patrons, strong communication skills, familiarity with technology and software, and flexibility. Evening and weekend hours are expected.
The WIC is a collaborative space on the first floor of the Van Pelt-Dietrich Center; details are at http://commons.library.upenn.edu (Interns may also help staff the Education Commons.)

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Serve as the initial point of contact for all visitors to the Commons, handling directional and general questions. Assist patrons with services and equipment. Refer students to academic support services
  • Assist patrons in following the policies and procedures of the Commons, especially with regards to group study room reservations
  • Assist instructors and faculty with educational technology
  • Provide overview of Commons services, technology, and programs to visitors
  • Schedule rooms and appointments for Commons staff and program partners
  • Handle signage and questions relating to course sessions, workshops and special events hosted by the Commons
  • Design and conduct technology training workshops for students and faculty
  • Write blog posts and ad-hoc reports
  • Conduct social media, web and print outreach for Commons activities
  • Track and communicate with Library staff about equipment and facilities issues
  • Work with the Director to develop online and print documentation
  • Provide appointment-based assistance to patrons and students

Qualifications:

  • Enrollment in a graduate degree program in library or information science or related field is expected.
  • Previous experience in an academic setting preferred; previous experience in an academic library or in providing academic support services highly desirable.
  • Public services orientation, interpersonal, communication, and organizational skills needed
  • Attention to detail and the ability to juggle multiple tasks
  • Familiarity with word processing, spreadsheet and searching software applications required. Candidates should be comfortable with and enthusiastic about educational technologies.
  • Teaching experience preferred
