Progressive public library in Wisconsin 's northwoods, in the heart of the Chequamegon/Nicolet National Forest, seeks a full-time Children's Librarian. 

 

Duties include:  Material selection and children's collection development, reader's advisory, children's reference, children's programming, other duties in the Children's Area; some adult circulation desk service and reference duties, overdue processing and billing, additional duties as assigned.

 

Schedule includes evenings and alternate Saturdays during the school year. 

 

Qualifications: Experience in children's service, and college-level public library course work required, college level library degree preferred.  Knowledge of history and current trends in children's library material.  Computer and Internet skills, customer service for children, and good interpersonal skills required.  Public library experience serving children is preferred.

The AUS Library is seeking an energetic and knowledgeable Electronic Resources Librarian to join its service-oriented team. The successful candidate will work closely with library colleagues to provide an integrated approach to the management and delivery of the library’s electronic resources.

 

Primary responsibilities include: acquisitions, licensing, implementation, assessment and ongoing maintenance of the online collections; managing the ERM system; cataloging and coordinating bibliographic records between the ERM, Serials Solutions and the Millennium catalog; troubleshooting problems arising from subscription, licensing or access-related technical issues including link resolution and federated searching; collecting and analyzing database usage statistics.

 

Required

An ALA-accredited MLS degree with minimum of 3 years experience. Knowledge of operating systems in both server and desktop environments; strong analytical and problem-solving skills; superior technology skills with openness to emerging technologies. Excellent oral, written and interpersonal communication skills are essential. Candidates must have ability to initiate and complete projects in a timely and independent manner.

 

Preferred

·         Familiarity with ERM standards such as OpenURL, COUNTER, SUSHI

  • Knowledge of metadata standards and formats including MARC, Dublin Core, AACR2, RDA, LCSH
  • Working knowledge of Javascript, XML, HTML, CSS , Web 2.0 and web development tools

LIBRARIAN

 

Reports to: Principal

Supervises: N/A

Purpose: The Librarian is responsible for the day to day operations of the facility, ensuring collection availability and development, supported by service provision, in meeting the information needs of staff and students of the Institute.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assists in the management, selection, acquisition and maintenance of LRC collections.

  • Acts as an advocate for information literacy across all program areas.
  • Works with faculty to develop LRC materials that enhance course offerings.
  • Conducts training in research skills, develops information literacy skills tutorials.
  • Develops electronic resources for students.
  • Assists students and faculty in the use of automated information systems.
  • Provides reference and information services to library users.
  • Promotes reading for educational and recreational purposes.
  • Promotes LRC services and resources to students and faculty.
  • Participates in the ongoing development and maintenance of the LRC website.
  • An ex officio member of the English Department to insure intradepartmental development of English Language skills support.
  • Assists in the supervision of students as appropriate.
  • Maintain statistics and reports including the supplies inventory and compile supply orders.

Minimum Job Requirements:

 

·        Graduate or post-graduate degree in Library and Information Science from a CILIP or ALA accredited institution, or equivalent.

·        At least three years experience, preferably in an educational setting.

·        Fluency in written and spoken English, Arabic an advantage.

·        Proficiency in MS Office and ICDL certification is a must.

The successful candidate will investigate, design and implement innovations in the delivery of library instruction, including collaborative efforts with faculty in all disciplines.  She or he will support an increasingly technologically sophisticated program engaging faculty and students to meet accreditation and assessment requirements.  Such efforts will contribute to the integration and delivery of information literacy and instruction across the entire curriculum, especially online.  
 
This work will dovetail with ongoing efforts to deliver library orientation and resources education through enhanced library instruction in designated courses and resource-focused workshops.  She or he will also provide library instruction, and develop IL and library instruction content for the library's website.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS  
Experience teaching in an information literacy program, preferably with a diverse student body.  Knowledge of best practices and emerging trends in information technology, instructional design and scholarly communication are essential.  The successful candidate will be familiar with web development and courseware management tools and their application to academic instruction.  She or he will have excellent interpersonal and leadership qualities and the demonstrated ability to help library and teaching faculty design content, enhance teaching, and integrate information literacy skills.  The candidate must be able to work effectively on shared projects and department and college committees.  She or he must maintain a record of excellence in librarianship, scholarly achievement (including peer-reviewed publications), and service for reappointment, tenure and promotion. It is also desirable that the candidate have a degree in science or technology.   Experience in an academic library is preferred.

  Information Services, Information Resources, Information Science included.)
  or Ph. D. of Information Management, Information Engineering or related fields.

POSITION LOCATION: Academic Affairs, Kenosha

 

POSITION DESCRIPTION: The primary responsibilities of the WISPALS Library Consortium Coordinator are to coordinate the Consortium budget and operations, facilitate future growth of the Consortium including marketing Consortium services and establish services to new members, act as liaison between Consortium and automation system and electronic services vendors, and represent the Consortium to other groups and agencies.

 

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS (Applicants must meet ALL of the required qualifications):

Master's Degree in Library Science.

Three years library experience such as cataloging, resource selection, web management, circulation.

Working knowledge of library administration and operations including planning and budgeting.

Experience using and supporting library automation system.

Experience maintaining, updating and posting to web pages.

Knowledge of personal computer systems operating in a network environment.

Strong Organizational skills and the ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.

Experience using / supporting personal computer systems and applications.

 

DESIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

Knowledge of grant-writing and potential funding sources.

Working knowledge of library consortia and library/consortia management.

Continuation of this position contingent on funding.

Library Media Technician II

College of the Canyons, located 35 miles north of downtown Los Angeles in the beautiful Santa Clarita Valley, is seeking a Library Media Technician II professional to join our team.  

Position Description:  The Library Media Technician II is a classified staff position.  Under supervision of the Dean, Distance Learning and Training Programs and work direction of the Librarian, Public Services and/or the Librarian, Technical Services, performs a variety of technical functions pertaining to the circulation, acquisition, processing and inventorying of books and other instructional materials and media, and performs specialized and technical work related to library/media operations.  Performs other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications:  
Three years experience involving the operation of library and/or instructional media centers. Possession of an Associate's degree in library/media technology (or related field) or a Bachelor's degree in any subject may substitute for one year of the required experience. 

Education equivalent to the completion of an Associate's degree (60 semester units) from an accredited institution. Two years direct experience in addition to that identified above may be substituted for one year (30 units) of college.
