Role Summary:

Part of the distributed operational systems administration team for Canonical
Ltd., while the responsibilites for deployment, database maintenance and
monitoring of numerous large scale public-facing web applications including
Launchpad (launchpad.net), Ubuntu One (one.ubuntu.com) and Landscape
(landscape.canonical.com). This role will be home based in Asia Pacific.



Key responsibilities/accountabilities:

* Carry out regular roll-outs of production and staging systems
* Response to outage/issues on the production and non-production environments
* Work with members of QA teams to diagnose problems on production and
staging systems
* Coordinate with the development team on testing and roll out of new code
* Longer term tasks typically providing infrastructure for new features on
the products we maintain
* Maintaining and in some cases creating reporting tools to analyze feature
use/projects progress
* Develop replication and fail-over strategies for availability and scaling
* Documenting all of the above, and automating where possible


Required skills and experience:

* Good interpersonal interactions with customer (internal developers) and
other members of the team
* Solid Linux systems administration skills (scripting etc.)
* Understood how to manage and maintain a secure computing environment and
how to articulate security concerns
* Good knowledge and experience with web and application services including
caching and balancing
* Good revision control skills particularly multi branch development and
cherry picking
* Able to communicate clearly in English, especially using email and instant
messaging
* Candidate needs to be self-driven, results-orientated and have a positive
outlook. Attention to detail, good interaction with customers and personal
motivation are key attributed to the success of this role


Desirable skills and experience:

* Experience managing clusters of Linux servers, particularly load balancing,
rolling upgrades and managing a changing code base across multiple servers
with minimal downtime and maximum stability
* Relational database experience, preferably PostgreSQL, ideally 9.1 in a
large replicated environment
* Python experience would be beneficial
* Experience with monitoring systems such as Cricket/Nagios would be
advantageous
* Some familiarity with emerging/popular technologies such as NoSQL
Databases/Message Queues, etc. as well as JuJu
* Familiarity with Ubuntu would be beneficial

Engineering Liaison Librarian
The Pennsylvania State University Libraries

The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seek two creative, enthusiastic, and engaged liaison librarians as tenure-track faculty members to provide innovative library services to the students and faculty in the College of Engineering.

Successful candidates will benefit from the mentoring program developed by the University Libraries to support faculty in tenure-track appointments in fulfilling expectations in the areas of librarianship, research, and service.  Entry-level or early-career librarians are encouraged to apply.

Responsibilities:  The Engineering Liaison Librarians will work collaboratively with their colleagues in the Engineering Library and the other libraries and departments throughout the University Libraries system to provide novel services to the students and faculty in their research intensive disciplines.
  • Reference and research: Provide reference assistance and research consulting for subject-specific research at all levels in person and in locations across the University Park campus including the Schreyer Honors College, the Knowledge Commons in Pattee Library, to faculty and students at our campus locations, and via e-communications.
  • Teaching, learning and literacies: Design, deliver, and assess library-instruction programs that support the curriculum of the College of Engineering including first-year seminars and technical writing and communication arts for engineering students. Develop instructional programs and learning materials in a variety of formats, using instructional-design principles.
  • Liaison activities with assigned academic units: Participate in the intellectual life and operations of the College of Engineering. Engage with faculty and students as a colleague in both disciplinary activities and in library services.
  • Collections content and access: Develop and manage collections to support research and curricular needs of engineering students, faculty, and researchers.  Collaborate with librarians in related subject areas and libraries.
  • Scholarly communications: Educate and inform faculty and graduate students on scholarly communication issues such as open-access initiatives, digital publishing, copyright, and digital curation.  Promote and provide assistance in the use of Scholarsphere, Penn State's repository service.
  • Research and Service: Engage in research, scholarly publication, and professional service activities in areas appropriate to academic librarianship and the disciplines served.  
  • Diversity:  Support diversity initiatives which create a welcoming and inclusive climate at the University Libraries.

Preferred Qualifications: Advanced degree in a STEM discipline; experience working in an academic library.

ASSISTANT CONSERVATOR

Position Description: Reporting to the Conservator, Preservation/Conservation, the Assistant Conservator performs treatment, coordinates various departmental activities, assists the Conservator with lab organization and training, and provides outreach and educational opportunities. Specific duties include:

 

·         Perform a wide range of conservation treatment on books, manuscripts, maps and other paper based materials.

·         Assist with the evaluation of library materials, advise on selection of collection items for treatment.

·         Perform single-item and collection care treatments, including full treatment documentation.

·         Oversee the environmental monitoring program.

·         Participate in all disaster prevention and recovery operations or other activities involving the protection and handling of collections.

·         Assist the Conservator with the management of all library exhibitions and loans. Survey, document, treat and prepare materials for exhibit.

·         Maintain and manage daily workflows, compile statistics, and train students and volunteers.

·         Cultivate, initiate and participate in a variety of outreach activities relative to preservation, exhibitions, or other appropriate areas.

Required Qualifications:

·         Advanced book or paper conservation degree, certificate in book or paper conservation or related field, or equivalent conservation experience.

·         Experience in book and/or paper conservation treatment and a working knowledge of conservation theory and practice.

·         Knowledge or understanding of artists materials, book structure, and book/print history.

ASSISTANT CONSERVATOR

(Librarian I)

 

Position Description: Reporting to the Conservator, Preservation/Conservation, the Assistant Conservator performs treatment, coordinates various departmental activities, assists the Conservator with lab organization and training, and provides outreach and educational opportunities. Specific duties include:

 

·         Perform a wide range of conservation treatment on books, manuscripts, maps and other paper based materials.

·         Assist with the evaluation of library materials, advise on selection of collection items for treatment.

·         Perform single-item and collection care treatments, including full treatment documentation.

·         Oversee the environmental monitoring program.

·         Participate in all disaster prevention and recovery operations or other activities involving the protection and handling of collections.

·         Assist the Conservator with the management of all library exhibitions and loans. Survey, document, treat and prepare materials for exhibit.

·         Maintain and manage daily workflows, compile statistics, and train students and volunteers.

·         Cultivate, initiate and participate in a variety of outreach activities relative to preservation, exhibitions, or other appropriate areas.

·         Create and update website information for educational and outreach purposes.

·         Seek out opportunities for continued training and development.

 

Required Qualifications:

·         Advanced book or paper conservation degree, certificate in book or paper conservation or related field, or equivalent conservation experience.

·         Excellent oral and written communication skills.

·         Experience in book and/or paper conservation treatment and a working knowledge of conservation theory and practice.

·         Demonstrated organizational skills.

·         Knowledge or understanding of artists materials, book structure, and book/print history.

·         Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment where consultation, flexibility, collaboration and cooperation are essential.

Job Summary:
The Research Department of the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis is seeking a team builder with technical skills and vision to oversee the continued growth of the Bank's leadership role as a provider of historical digital content.  The Research Department hosts the FRASER Digital Library and Archive (http://fraser.stlouisfed.org) of historic banking and economic materials.  This digital library was created in 2004, and has grown to over 40,000 documents.  It generated 87,600 visits in the past year.  At this time, it is the largest collection of its type in the Federal Reserve System.  In late 2013-2014, the System will be creating a System Centennial website which will draw on this collection as well as generate additional materials.

This position will continue to build the FRASER brand by facilitating connections and partnerships that improve content, access, and delivery to enhance digital scholarship.  In cooperation with other Research Department members, Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis staff and by developing System wide contacts, the coordinator will:
·        Research, analyze, and recommend additional FRASER content
·        Suggest and help implement functional improvements and functionality
·        Build collegial relationships with other Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis staff, as well as staff at other Reserve Banks and the Board of Governors, including the Federal Reserve System historian
·        Will serve on the Federal Reserve Bank of St. Louis centennial committee, the System Subcommittee for Archives and Historical Collections, and other local, system, and professional groups, as appropriate
·        Give presentations on the use and value of FRASER to a wide variety of audiences
·        Oversee the continuing development of the Bank historical archive

Position Description: Reporting to the Associate University Librarian and Director, Hardin Library for the Health Sciences and Branch Libraries, the incumbent is responsible for:

·         Developing and implementing a vision for the Business Library that is housed in and supports the Tippie College of Business’ vision for education, research and service.

·         Providing liaison services for the College of Business including reference, research, instruction, scholarly communications, data curation planning and related responsibilities for the disciplines of accounting, economics, finance, management and organizations, management sciences, entrepreneurship and marketing.

·         Assisting undergraduate, graduate and professional students in the use and critical evaluation of information resources and necessary information management skills.

·         Collecting, managing and maintaining business and economics publications and resources in all formats.

·         Supervising 1 librarian and 1.8FTE support staff and various students, requiring competent and effective hiring, training, communication, coaching, performance management, conflict management, and recognition skills.

·         Overseeing the day-to day-operations of the Business Library including space planning, staffing and services such as circulation, document delivery and reserves.

·         Interacting with appropriate Main Library personnel, Physical Plant Maintenance staff, and College of Business staff to maintain facilities and equipment for the use, preservation, and conservation of materials in the Pomerantz Business Library.
