[LIBJOBS] Vacancies for Qatar National Library (Senior Access Librarian) - Qatar

Position Title: Senior Access Librarian

Job Purpose: This position works with the Head of Access Services to assist in the development of long term strategic goals and objectives of the Qatar National Library access services area.

Key Result Areas:

Ø  Plays a role in implementing and managing the access services areas

Ø  Supports the development and management of access services workflows

Ø  Coordinates the staff and daily work of the Access Services team

Ø  Liaises with Public Services and Library Information Technology staff to ensure effective and user-friendly access to library resources

Ø  Provides input for the formulation of policies, practices and projects relating to library resources access

Ø  Implements and manages the procedures relating to the access of library resources

Ø  Reviews workflows for user registration, circulation, fees collection, shelving and stack maintenance, reserves, document delivery, inter-library loans and reciprocal borrowing programs

Ø  Acts as initial point of resolution of user issues, collection of fees, privacy concerns

Ø  Maintain smooth operation of user privacy and programs that safeguard assets

Ø  Serves as a back-up resource person regarding access issues both within the team and in other areas of the Qatar National Library and its stakeholders

Ø  Delivers training curricula and maintain performance standards for Access Services staff

Ø  Keeps abreast of developments, trends and issues in all areas of responsibilities

Ø  Contributes to the profession by publishing, presenting or participating in professional organizations

Ø  Participates in team work to set up the Qatar National Library

Ø  Performs miscellaneous duties and serves on designated committees as required.

Ø  Actively participates in activities in the areas of access services regarding Qatar, the region, and internationally

Ø  Works with Public Services in the creation of services and programs to meet the reading, information, education, and research needs of users

Ø  Oversees the workflows regarding circulation and shelving of library materials

Ø  This position includes, but is not limited to, other duties as required and defined by the scope, purpose, and spirit of the institution and are not always indicative of the title and grade of the position.

Ø  Familiarize, understand and implement QF health, safety, and environment policy, procedures, legal regulations and objectives applicable to areas of responsibility. Ensures coordination with HSE department in implementing, monitoring and reviewing of HSE performance to ensure work under his/her control is performed in a safe, healthy and environmentally sound manner.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

Ø  Master’s Degree in Library and Information Science accredited by the American Library Association (ALA) or other internationally recognized library qualifications

Ø  Five or more years supervisory experience in a technical services environment

Ø  Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and assignments concurrently and effectively

Ø  Experience with library management systems , Millennium system experience preferred

Ø  Knowledge of access service issues affecting all library resources

Ø  Familiarity with international and regional standards dealing with access to library materials

Ø  Knowledge of standards pertaining to accessibility of the facilities for all users in a library environment

Ø  Familiarity with the concepts, goals, teaching methods relating to access service staff

Ø  Awareness of cultural issues in order to be proactive in anticipating user needs

Ø  Proven ability to deliver effective and efficient solutions to operational issues or problems

Ø  Strong analytical, interpersonal and English oral and written communication skills

Ø  Ability to work effectively both independently and within a team

Ø  Record of leadership  in libraries

Ø  Flexibility with changing responsibilities and duties as new and additional needs become known

Ø  Experience in a multi-cultural environment preferred

Ø  Knowledge of Arabic is an asset
