[LIBJOBS] Vacancies for Qatar National Library (Access Officer) - Qatar

Position Title: Access Officer

 

Job Purpose: The Access Support Officer is responsible for the overseeing of the daily operations of the Circulation Desk.  Materials are loaned and returned according to the policies of the Qatar National Library and this positions sees to it they are observed, along with other operational duties.  This is a front-line position and will be one of the first people that the public will see in the library.

 

Key Result Areas:

Ø  Implements the policies and procedures relating to the access of library resources

Ø  Coordinates daily operational processes for the Circulation Desk Technicians

Ø  Oversees the day-to-day operations dealing with circulation, shelving and stack maintenance of library materials

Ø  Processes reserve requests

Ø  Handles assigned aspects of inter-library loan, document delivery, and reciprocal borrowing programs

Ø  Contributes to the resolution of user issues

Ø  Enforces strict privacy procedures along with procedures to safeguard the QNL’s physical assets

Ø  Supervises the work of the Circulation Desk Technicians

Ø  Deliver training curricula and meets performance standards for that training

Ø  Keep abreast of developments, trends, and issues regarding Access Services issues on all levels

Ø  Monitors the book sorting system and reports any issues

Ø  Participates in the setup of the new library facility on a front-line basis

Ø  Leads and participates in programs to meet the reading, information, education, and research needs of the users

Ø  Suggests improvements to the workflows regarding circulation and shelving

Ø  Setup schedules for staffing of all public service points specifically assigned to the Access Services team

Ø  This position includes, but is not limited to, other duties as required and defined by the scope, purpose, and spirit of the institution and are not always indicative of the title and grade of the position.

 

Knowledge, Skills & Experience:

 

Ø  Bachelor’s Degree in Library Science or appropriate Library Diploma

Ø  Minimum three years of experience in an access services environment

Ø  Time management expertise

Ø  Team building experience

Ø  Thorough familiarity with scheduling and organizing front-line Access Services team members

Ø  Experience with Millennium library management system is preferred

Ø  Strong public service commitment

Ø  Ability to work independently and as a member of a team

Ø  Strong organizational, analytical and communication skills in both oral and written English

Ø  Arabic language skills would be useful

Ø  Ability to be flexible, open-minded and comfortable with changing responsibilities and duties as new and additional needs become known
