[LIBJOBS] USA - Fredericksburg, VA - Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian

 

The University of Mary Washington is seeking an energetic, innovative person to serve as the Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian.  The person in this position is responsible for the day-to-day operations and workflows supporting the acquisition of electronic resources and serials in all formats.   The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian ensures the correctness of catalog and holdings records and maintains information in the libraries’ link resolver.  The librarian works with Systems personnel to enhance the discovery and use of library resources and to resolve technical issues as they arise.  The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian supervises one full-time staff person.

 

The Electronic Resources and Serials Librarian works collaboratively with the Collection Development Librarian and the subject and reference librarians to build serial and electronic resources collections that support the University’s curriculum and to shape those collections to match the needs of our users.  This librarian monitors trends and emerging issues in serials and electronic resources.  The person in this position is responsible for negotiating and monitoring license agreements for new and renewing purchases.  

 

In addition, this librarian serves on the reference desk, including occasional Saturday duty, and assists the Special Collection Librarian with digitization and other projects.  The librarian serves on library and campus committees  and participates in the libraries planning and assessment processes. 

 

 Required Qualifications:

 

·         Master's degree from an American Library Association (ALA) accredited Master's program (MLS/MLIS).

·         Experience working with licensed electronic resources and/or serials in a library environment.

·         Excellent communication skills, both oral and written.

·         Ability to work both independently and collaboratively.

·         Familiarity with traditional and electronic information resources, library services best practices and emerging library technologies.

 

Preferred Qualifications:

 

·         Experience with the VTLS Virtua integrated library system and with Serials Solutions products and services.

·         Experience supervising library staff and student assistants.

·         Excellent command of LC classification.

·         Strong understanding of data collection and use for decision-making purposes .

·         Knowledge of copyright policies and intellectual property issues in academic institutions. 

·         Evidence of course work, conference attendance, and/or work experience in serials and electronic resources librarianship.
