[LIBJOBS] China - Hong Kong - Associate Librarians

Associate Librarian (2 posts) in the Library

(a)     Teaching and Learning Support [Ref. B/894/09]

(b)     Research Support and Business Development [Ref. B/895/09]

 

Aspiring to be a valued learning partner in the 21st century, the Library of the University is in the midst of an ambitious restructuring.

 

Duties :

For post (a), provide decision support to the University Librarian in reader services; implement strategic planning and directions in developing service models for users to explore the many facets of the library services, the richness of the collection in all kinds of formats, strong user-centered approach to quality service, scholarly communication, research tools, bibliometrics, and for the Library to be fully integrated into teaching curricula and learning activities of the University.

For post (b), provide decision support to the University Librarian in technical services; implement strategic planning and develop policies in collection development, consortia collaboration, data management and digital library initiatives of the Library.

 

Requirements : A good honours degree plus a recognized post-graduate professional qualification in Librarianship and Information Science (MLS or equivalent).  Candidates should have demonstrated achievements and leadership in activities (such as effective communication with faculty members, University community and beyond, consortium collaboration, initiating long-term projects and activities).  Excellent analytical, communication (written and spoken) and interpersonal skills; and the ability to work effectively with colleagues, students, faculty and staff in a rapidly changing, complex, diverse and multicultural environment are required.  Candidates should also have proven record of professional participation with knowledge of current issues and trends, and the ability to represent the Library at all levels.

For post (a), experience in managing public services in a large, complex organization (including operations, facilities and human resources management) is required.

For post (b), experience in managing acquisitions, especially in budge control, cataloguing and serials management, electronic resources licensing, hardware support and software applications in a networked environment is required.

 

Salary and Conditions of Service

Remuneration package will be highly competitive, commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Initial appointment will be made on a fixed-term contract; fringe benefits include gratuity, leave, medical and dental schemes, and housing benefits.
