Mohammed VI Library

The mission of the Mohammed VI Library is to provide access to information in support of the education, research, and development activities of Al Akhawayn University in Ifrane. The library currently has a collection of over 82,000 books in addition to over 355 national and international academic journals, magazines and newspapers. The library also provides access to a wide variety of electronic resources (full-text electronic books, electronic journals, etc.).


JOB DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Library Director, the Collection Development /Systems Librarian is responsible for the selection of all print and electronic library resources, as well as for coordinating one-on-one and group training for both library patrons and staff.  This position will also be responsible for the supervision of support staff, and will be responsible for maintaining the Integrated Library System (ILS) and updating the library's website.  This position will also collaborate with Reference and User Services in implementing library technology.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Collection Development)

  • Evaluate current holdings against identified standard bibliographies and class syllabi
  • Recommend purchases and coordinate faculty orders for all print and electronic library resources
  • Evaluate usefulness of library gifts and donations for the collection
  • Evaluate the collection and recommend items for weeding
  • Create subject-specific online library resource guides and instructional tools to support research and learning
  • Provide classroom instruction on a variety of levels
  • Assist in library promotion and outreach
  • Participate in library planning and policy development
  • Other duties as assigned

 

Essential Duties and Responsibilities (Systems librarian)


  • Upgrade, customize, and maintain all ILS modules
  • Respond to staff and patron ILS inquiries
  • Perform periodic system upgrades and computer backups
  • Maintain campus proxy server and URL link resolver
  • Maintain relationships with local consortium and vendors
  • Provide staff training sessions related to relevant new technologies, including ILS updates
  • Act as liaison between the library and campus ITS department
  • Provide computer hardware and software support
  • Generate ILS and website usage statistics
  • Consult with staff regarding technology-based library plans
  • Maintain library website with updates, enhancements, and functionality
  • Create ILS documentation material for staff usage
  • Participate in library planning and policy development
  • Other duties as assigned

Qualifications and Skills

  • Master's Degree in Library or Information Science
  • Excellent English language communication skills
  • Experience with all Microsoft Office software, especially Excel
  • Familiarity with relevant library databases and reference materials
  • Willingness to learn and administer new library-related technologies
  • Ability to respond to staff and patron inquiries in a prompt and courteous manner
  • Ability to work both independently and in a collaborative team environment
  • Commitment to customer service
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a different culture
  • Supervisory experience


Preferred Qualifications

  • BS in Computer Science or related field and relevant experience
  • Experience working with an Integrated Library System (Millennium ILS preferred)
  • Experience with website development and design (HTML, CSS, PHP, EZProxy)

Working Environment

This position may require occasional evening and weekend duties.
