Position: Instruction/Reference Librarian

Starting Date: November 1, 2011

The California State University, Los Angeles, Library seeks an energetic, innovative, enthusiastic, and technologically knowledgeable librarian to participate and collaborate in the Library's extensive information literacy liaison program, including planning, teaching, and assessing library sessions for specific CSULA classes and workshops.

Will serve as a subject specialist liaison to academic departments and other programs in the areas of collection development and instruction.  Provide reference and research assistance during regularly scheduled hours at the Reference Desk, online, and by appointment for students, staff, and faculty.  Reference responsibilities include some evening and weekend hours.

Minimum Qualifications: MLS or equivalent from an ALA-accredited library school.  Demonstrated strong user services orientation and enthusiasm for public service.  Knowledge of instructional and reference methods.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching.  Proven ability and experience in using academic electronic and print resources.  Ability to effectively communicate orally and in writing in English.  Ability to work independently and within a team setting.  Demonstrated ability and/or interest in working in a multicultural, multi-ethnic environment.

Desired/Preferred Qualifications: Experience in an academic library.  Demonstrated teaching experience and familiarity with information literacy standards and outcomes as they reflect current library teaching practice.  Experience with learning management software (e.g., Moodle).  Experience in creating and maintaining web pages and/or using authoring and presentation software.  An advanced degree, substantial coursework or background/work experience in the social sciences and/or education.

Salary Range: Initial salary commensurate with qualifications and experience.  Position at the rank of Senior Assistant Librarian.  This is a full-time, temporary appointment at the rank of Sr. Assistant Librarian. Appointment through June 30, 2012, with the possibility of extension.
