Head of Information & Research Services

 

The Florida International University Libraries seeks a dynamic, customer-focused and innovative thinker for the position of Head of Information & Research Services. Reporting to the Associate Dean for Public Services, the Head of Information & Research Services (I&RS) will manage all activities of the I&RS Department at the Steven and Dorothea Green Library, including: reference (face-to-face and virtual), information literacy instruction, interlibrary loan and government documents.

 

Position Description: 

This position manages the department and leads the staff in evaluating and improving their work; establishes priorities, goals, and benchmarks for the department and its staff; evaluates performance; and measures progress on high-priority projects. Serves as the department’s advocate on the Libraries’ Department Heads and Management Team Committees.  Actively contributes to library–wide planning, policy-making, goal-setting and assessment efforts. Overall, the incumbent will be responsible for providing effective leadership to meet the information and research needs of faculty and students, incorporating new approaches and technologies to existing and future services.

 

Library faculty are expected to participate in professional development, research, and service activities to meet the Libraries’ and University’s requirements for promotion.

 

Required Qualifications:

 

  • ALA-accredited Master’s degree.
  • Experience in positions of increasing responsibility in an academic or research library environment.
  • Excellent interpersonal skills.
  • Effective leadership and supervisory skills and experience.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Frontline experience in Reference and Instruction.
  • Familiarity with current issues and trends in the management and operation of academic libraries with particular emphasis on trends in Reference and Instruction.

 

Desirable Qualifications:

 

  • Evidence of collaborative decision-making.
  • Ability to think outside-the-box and the flexibility to apply new solutions to rapidly changing expectations.
  • Demonstrated ability to inspire and enthuse colleagues, coupled with a willingness to take calculated risks to provide creative learning opportunities for library users.
  • Experience or familiarity with Government Documents and Interlibrary Loan  operations.

 

 

Rank/Salary:

Commensurate with educational background and experience.
