Librarian, Technical and General Services

The NYUAD Library seeks candidates with flexibility, creativity, and a strong customer service commitment to serve in a combined role facilitating access to collections by providing Technical Services support, as well as contributing generally to the unique set of patron services being developed at the library. 

Reporting to the Library Director and in consultation with librarians and learning technology staff, assists with the development and implementation of NYUAD library policies and procedures.  Technical Services duties include: oversee routine acquisitions of library materials; assess vendor performance; report catalog maintenance issues to the Knowledge Access and Resource Management Services Department in New York; coordinate report requests; review local technical services workflows to ensure that they conform with best practices as indicated by NYU Division of Libraries; manage library assistants involved in those areas, review work for accuracy, troubleshoot and resolve problems; establish priorities and ensure deadlines are met.  General services duties include: conduct bibliographic instruction, contribute to the development of library’s e-presence and e-service vehicles; work directly with faculty and students to promote library services.  

Work location is the Abu Dhabi campus downtown location, interim to the completion of the permanent campus on Saadiyat Island.  Living and working in the United Arab Emirates presents an excellent professional work environment, coupled with an abundance of cultural, educational, recreational and travel opportunities.

 

Qualifications and Education Requirements

Required Education: ALA accredited MLS and background in subject matter relevant to the curriculum required.  Recent graduates with the required qualifications will be considered.

Required experience: Two years of para-professional or professional experience in acquisitions and/or cataloging; familiarity with current practices, new technologies, and trends in academic libraries.   Academic library experience preferred.   

Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Working knowledge of the structure and operation of integrated library systems; demonstrated ability reading and interpreting bibliographic records; strong analytical and problem solving skills; experience creating/maintaining simple databases and complex spreadsheets; excellent English-language communication skills; knowledge of a language other than English preferred, but not required;  ability to establish positive long-distance working relationships with NYU Library staff in New York and to work collegially within a small local unit that is flexible and extremely responsive to patrons.
