[LIBJOBS] Open Position- Circulation Mgr - Allen County Public Library, Fort Wayne, IN

Check out this exciting opportunity that was made available due to a retirement.  The Allen County Public Library is seeking a dynamic, customer service focused individual to fill the role of Circulation Manager at our Main Library.



• Responsible for the effective function of areas of service involved in the circulation of materials: the Circulation Desk, involving direct patron contact 95% of the time, and holds maintenance; Circulation Records, which addresses the creation and upkeep of the customer database, the operation of the staff help line, overdue notification and a variety of record functions; Circulation Support, which addresses the trouble shooting of overdues problems, the operation of the incoming customer help line, telephone renewal, overdue notification and the processing of damaged/incomplete returns, along with a variety of clerical duties; and Collection, involving the interaction with customers who have not returned material to the library within a specified period of time.

• Selects, develops, oversees, evaluates, and counsels a staff most of whom are in contact with the public and other departmental staff 85%-95% of the time.

• Develops system-wide circulation policies and procedures and works closely with the management team to achieve standardized implementation of the policies and procedures.

• Trains system-wide circulation staff in policies and guidelines for registering Allen County customers and others to obtain ACPL borrowing privileges, for interacting with customers and on the basics of the circulation procedures and the integrated library system.

• Works with distressed patrons to interpret ACPL policy and procedure and to come to a mutually satisfying agreement in problem situations.

• Teams with Information Technology Services and Technical Services to research the integrated library system to understand its’ intricacies, as well as, develop future plans and streamline processes for the integrated library system.


Required Qualifications: 

Master’s of Library Science from a school accredited by the American Library Association.

3 plus years of experience in a public library.

Must apply for and maintain Indiana Librarian Certification, earning 75 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.

Analytical skills sufficient for the efficient management of workflow among employees dealing with constantly increasing responsibilities.

Interpersonal skills sufficient for communicating effectively with a variety of customers and for effective leadership of full-time and part-time employees. Ability to use and manage the library’s integrated library system to provide efficient and effective service to customers.


Preferred Skills & Abilities: 

2 years of supervisory experience preferred.



This position pays a salary of $49,961.60 and up based on comparable and related experience. A comprehensive benefits package is included as well!
