LAC Group UK is seeking a French Language Expert - Researcher into Legislative Terminology for a temporary position with one of our international clients.   The client company maintains current and accurate information about laws and regulations that contain information requirements for businesses in the financial services sector.

The person being sought can be resident anywhere in the world and will work remotely, from home.  The day-to-day management of all assignments will be the responsibility of the Head of Research at the client company, who is resident in the UK.  The position is hourly paid and it is estimated that, initially, approx. 225 hours of work will be required. Ideally, we are looking for someone to be available to work full-time, or close to full time, on this assignment and it is currently scheduled to begin in mid-January 2017. 

Purpose of the Temporary Position

To assist with the development of search concepts and a language model that will facilitate automated searching for legal and regulatory information requirements for Financial Services 

Essential Skills

  • A native French speaker but also fluent in English and able to present good written English or native English speaker but fluent in French and possessing advanced French language qualifications.
  • A knowledge of the structure, grammar and syntax of French
  • Experience of terminology used in legislation and financial services regulation of at least one French speaking country
  • Good research skills with an ability to analyze and interpret complex information.
  • Good knowledge of office applications including Word, Excel, Project and PowerPoint, and ability to work with electronic research resources.
  • Ability to observe strict confidentiality.
  • Proven team skills.

 

Key responsibilities:

  • Translate English search concepts into French.
  • Review proposed synonyms of concepts in French for relevance to research scope.
  • Supplement synonyms of French concepts with any missing terms
  • Identify official sources of legislation and Financial Services regulation in French-speaking countries to facilitate testing.
  • Test search results for relevance and provide feedback on irrelevant results


Desirable Skills:

  • Knowledge of records management principles.
  • Knowledge of legal terminology related to the financial services sector
  • Knowledge of legal citation, concepts & terminology, and law-making and publishing processes.
  • Legal qualification.
