[LIBJOBS] Librarian - Crystal Bridges Museum of American Art - Bentonville, Arkansas

Position:  Librarian (Full Time)

Location:  Bentonville, AR

Position Description


The Librarian will provide oversight of the reference desk and reading room, train and supervise library volunteers and part-time staff, support staff and resident scholars’ library use, and manage library acquisitions and billing.  Flexibility and attention to detail are imperative in this position.


Primary Responsibilities:

  • Assist guests and museum staff in meeting informational needs by searching on-line catalog, databases and print sources to answer routine and complex inquiries.
  • Schedule and supervise special collections research appointments and group viewings.
  • Supervise and train library volunteers and part-time staff.
  • Manage library acquisitions, approval plans, subscriptions, and billing.
  • Support staff and resident scholars library use

Minimum Qualifications


Education, Training, and Traits:

  • An accredited MLS/MSLIS degree
  • Commitment to contributing to an invigorating museum team and enhancing library services through a solid work ethic and collegial interpersonal skills
  • Ability to be patient and flexible while also staying energized and focused on providing excellent public service
  • Strong organizational and project management skills, including attention to detail and the ability to set and meet deadlines
  • Excellent oral and written communications skills
  • Research skills

Work Experience preferred:

  • Art library, special collections, or museum library experience
  • Experience with all aspects of research including electronic subscription databases
  • Experience working with volunteers

Licenses and Certifications:

  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required 

Skills and Abilities:

  • Proficiency with standard office equipment and software
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously
  • Ability to interact collegially with all employees and volunteers at all levels of responsibility
  • Ability to understand and maintain the highest levels of ethics and confidentiality

  • Physical demands:  The position requires verbal and written conversation with others, sitting, standing, walking, bending, climbing, reaching, strenuous lifting / moving objects up to 25 pounds, and use of hands to manipulate, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls. Vision abilities required by the job include close vision and color perception. 
  • Work Environment:  Work will be performed in an office environment, museum spaces, construction site, and in communities served. The noise level in the work environment is usually low to moderate. Position requires some independent overnight travel for research, professional meetings, and other travel as necessary to fulfill responsibilities of the position.
