QUALIFICATIONS: | Masters degree in Library Science ( Must have access to transportation and maintain a valid N.C. Driver's License with an acceptable driving record, or obtain and present a valid N.C. Driver's License to the Library's Personnel Administrative Assistant for verification within thirty days of employment. Background check by law enforcement required. Negative drug test required. |
DUTIES: | An employee in this position is responsible for providing advanced library services to customers at youth services desks. Independent judgment is required in answering reference questions and assisting youth, parents, and caregivers with the selection of material. Develops and presents age-appropriate programs for youth, birth through young adult. Develops and present training in skills related to youth services. Assists in children's and teen collection development. Tact and courtesy are needed. Work is performed under general supervision; however, a superior is available to answer questions regarding unusual technical or administrative problems. Performance is evaluated through conferences and periodic reviews of completed work. May act as Person-in-Charge (PIC) on a regular basis in the absence of the manager. Assists the Youth Services Department Manager in maintaining an efficient, dynamic and, customer service oriented youth department. Assists children and their caregivers in obtaining information from a variety of print and electronic resources in person and by telephone. Develops and conducts age-appropriate programs for infants through young adults both within the library and through outreach. Participates in development and presentation of system-wide training in skills related to youth services including oral storytelling, puppetry, readers advisory and youth literature. Assists in collection development for the department and branch as assigned. Serves as working member of the Youth Services Council and other councils as assigned. Assumes responsibility for the department in the absences of the department manager as needed. Prepares and develops brochures and informational literature for children and caregivers in print and electronic formats. Works in collaborative efforts with other community agencies. Performs other related duties as required or assigned. |
