The Systems Librarian is responsible for the overall management and support of the Millennium Library system and other library applications. The position reports directly to the Manager, Library Systems, of the Distributed eLibrary and coordinate closely with WCMC-Q ITS department to implement all technology related tasks carried out on servers residing on the College network.

 

MAJOR RESPONSIBILITIES

 

  •  Administer the library's Millennium System (ILS Application).
  • Coordinate with WCMC-Q ITS department for upgrades, maintenance and customization of the Web and client interfaces of Millennium System and other supporting applications.
  • Analyze system usage, and generate system statistical reports for management.
  • Evaluate needs, create and deliver workshops in use of library software and instruction for students and staff. Provide instruction, training, and documentation to appropriate audience as needed
  • Work with WCMCQ-ITS to insure the integration and web accessibility of all library electronic resources.
  • Administer and support other library applications, including but not limited to the Ariel Document delivery system.
  • Supervise the senior library assistant(s).
  • Coordinate closely with counterparts in the WCMC-Q ITS department on assignments requiring ITS support.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

 
 III. POSITION REQUIREMENTS

 

BA/BS in Computer Science (or related area) or the equivalent combination of education and experience, a Masters Degree in Library and Information Science is preferred.
5 or more years professional level experience managing library integrated systems in a digital library environment, including the integration of online resources and creative use of electronic resources for service delivery is also required.
Prior experience with Innovative Interfaces Inc.'s Millennium system is preferred.

 

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies:
  • Prior experience in managing on-line database connectivity-using tools such as Oracle, MySQL, ODBC drivers, DBMS, and PL/SQL.
  • Prior experience in web authoring using JAVA script, HTML, PHP and/or PERL
  • Previous project development and implementation experience
  • Prior experience using Metadata harvesting and Open URL
  • Prior experience producing statistical reports and data analysis using report writer tools such as Crystal Reports.
  • Advanced Microsoft Office suite skills.
  • Familiarity with Mac OSX and desktop publishing applications such as Dream Weaver.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to work as a team member in start-up situation.
  • Previously demonstrated ability to read and comprehend information, synthesize and draw conclusions, recommend alternative solutions.
  • Previously demonstrated critical thinking skills.
  1. PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
Evening and weekend hours will be required.
Some bending and lifting (up to 20kg) may be required.
Service provision could require crossing distances within the building to respond to requests for assistance.

 

 

Weill Cornell Medical College in Qatar was established in 2001 as a partnership between Cornell University and Qatar Foundation.

The first medical school in Qatar and a pioneer of coeducation at university level, WCMC-Q offers an integrated program of pre-medical and medical studies leading to the Cornell University M.D. degree.
