Head of Access Services

 

Responsibilities: Primary duties consist of, but are not limited to the following: manage

the activities of all units in Access Services including circulation (which provides 89.5

hours of service each week in addition to opening and closing the building), reserves,

stacks management, interlibrary loan/document delivery, and courier-delivery

(consortia); develop, interpret, and implement policies; maintain the library web pages

related to the department; participate in reference desk rotation; serve on appropriate

library and university committees and task forces. Oversee copyright compliance as it

pertains to ILL and reserve issues. Assist in distance education initiatives.

This position also includes collection development responsibilities and may include

library instruction.

This position is an academic non-tenure track position.

Required: MLS from an ALA accredited program; minimum 3 years of increasingly

responsible supervisory experience of full-time employees in an access services

department; experience in providing services to on-campus and remote users;

demonstrated familiarity with electronic systems and services; demonstrated mastery of

technical skills and knowledge of technologies for requesting and delivery; excellent

interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral; demonstrated ability to

interact effectively with a wide range of library users; demonstrated ability to work

independently and collaboratively; a commitment to public service. Some evening and

weekend work required.

Preferred: Three years working in an academic or public library in access services;

experience with circulation services (either as a paraprofessional or a professional);

familiarity with Innovative Interfaces Millennium integrated library system; familiarity

with OCLC Illiad; working knowledge of Ariel and other scanning and imaging systems.
