THE LIBRARY
Lane Community College Library is the third largest community college library in Oregon, serving the educational and vocational needs of an expanding and diverse student population. The Library provides information support to over 50 professional and technical programs, noncredit programs and transfer degree options.

THE COLLEGE
The college offers a wide variety of instructional programs including transfer credit programs, professional technical degree and certificate programs, continuing education noncredit courses, programs in English as a Second Language and International ESL, GED programs, and customized training for local businesses. Classes are offered at several locations, and online classes and telecourses are also available. More than 36,000 students take credit or noncredit classes at Lane each year. Lane has the third largest enrollment of the 17 community colleges in Oregon. Lane serves a 4,600 square mile area from the Cascade Mountains to the Pacific Ocean (this is an area larger than the states of Delaware and Rhode Island combined).

Lane has received many awards and accolades for its innovative programs and high quality instruction. The college is a member of the League for Innovation in the Community College, and in 2000 was selected by the league as one of 12 Vanguard Learning Colleges in North America for its outstanding record of achievement and innovation in improving learning. EDUCATION MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

REQUIRED EDUCATION

MLS from ALA-accredited institution, or equivalent  
Preferred Education  

EXPERIENCE MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS 

 

REQUIRED EXPERIENCE

* 2 years professional experience in an academic library
* Recent experience with instructional technologies
* Recent teaching experience in information literacy competencies  
Preferred Experience Recent experience in a community college library

POSITION PURPOSE
To collaboratively develop and implement a program of library instruction, instructional support services, and collections which further the missions of the Library and the College  

 

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

* Collaborate with other faculty librarians to develop and provide an innovative and comprehensive program of information literacy instruction designed to support self-directed, self-sufficient learning in a variety of settings and in a variety of instructional modalities, including the online environment

*Provide faculty with an understanding of information literacy and how it relates to Lane's core abilities; assist instructional faculty with the integration of information literacy into their courses

*Develop and deliver traditional as well as innovative reference services to students, faculty and staff, both in person and at remote locations.

*Participate in the development and management of the library collection of print-non-print, and online resources

*Serve as library liaison to one or more academic departments

*Promote library collections and services internally and externally

*Collaborate in the design and implementation of assessment methods for quality improvement and program development

*Gather and analyze data to ensure an appropriate ongoing mix of services and resources that best support the instructional missions of the library and the College

*Participate in library governance and planning;
Serve on library committees such as Curriculum Committee, Librarians Council, and Orbis Cascade Alliance committees

*Collaborate with Library and Information Technology staff in the design and implementation of a Learning Commons

*Participate in appropriate professional development activities to maintain knowledge of current reference resources and trends in information delivery, especially in community colleges

*Communicate effectively and respectfully, and work collaboratively, with students and staff from diverse cultural, ethnic, and socioeconomic backgrounds

Knowledge of:
the principles and practices of library and information science, particularly in an academic setting; the principles and techniques of reference service and information literacy instruction in an academic library environment; principles of collection development and curriculum support; community college curricular and instructional programs; principles of instructional design; characteristics of adult learners; learning styles and multiple teaching strategies; concepts of library outcomes, assessment, and continuous improvement; current issues and emerging information and web technologies in academic librarianship; the role of academic libraries in supporting teaching and learning.

Ability to:
communicate concisely, clearly and effectively in both written and oral formats; work with students, staff and others who are members of diverse communities; work independently, and as part of a team, in a rapidly changing environment; exercise tact, patience and courtesy.

Ability to:
implement outcomes and assessment in the learning process; participate in the design and planning of library service improvements; use spreadsheet, word processing, and other business management software; conduct a reference interview

Proficiency in, and demonstrated experience with:
*academic library technology and computer applications; development and integration of Web-based resources and instructional technology into the library program; the technologies and support required in the development and implementation of a learning commons; instructional design; explaining and teaching technology to a less- or non-technical audience.

Demonstrated commitment to:
*service, and to the instructional mission of the community college library; student success and the promotion of lifelong learning; working with and assisting students, staff, and public having a wide range of skills, motivation, learning styles, and academic or vocational goals

Demonstrated evidence of:
