Job Summary:
The Florida International University Libraries are taking a new approach to public services in the context of the 21st century library, implementing an information commons service model and seeking opportunities for greater engagement with our user community. The Libraries seek an energetic, user-focused individual to lead this change, serving as an agent to empower faculty and staff to be successful in this new environment. The successful candidate should be an out-of-the-box thinker and problem solver who can navigate the uncertainties of change.
Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the position will have administrative responsibility for Access Services, Reference and Instructional Services, and Government Documents at the Maidique and Biscayne Bay campuses. Other responsibilities will include:
- Oversight of library operations and budget in collaboration with the Dean, the Associate Dean for Technical and Digital Library Services, the Associate Dean for Administrative Services, and the team of library department heads
- Oversight of assessment and outcomes measurement for all public services
- Leadership of implementation of information commons spaces and services at both campuses and in the Engineering Center
- Leadership in engagement with the University and external communities
- Leadership in the ongoing reorganization of public service departments
- Collaboration with Law, Medical, and Wolfsonian Libraries
The position is expected to participate in professional development, research and service activities to meet the Libraries' and University's requirements for promotion.

Required Qualifications:
- Masters degree from an ALA accredited program or equivalent
- Excellent oral and written communication skills
- Excellent interpersonal skills
- Record of positions with demonstrated administrative success
- Ground-level experience in public services
- Flexibility to work across a diverse multi-campus & multi-site environment
- Demonstrated success in empowering people to excel in their job assignment
- Documented success in implementing and sustaining innovative technology-based services
- Demonstrated success in building effective partnerships across libraries
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in policy development
- Experience in project management
- Knowledge of current trends in information commons
- Teaching experience in a classroom environment
- Knowledge of web or multi-media applications
- Sense of humor
