The St. Charles City-County Library District is seeking a creative, energetic librarian to provide Children's and Young Adult Services in a regional branch in St. Charles County, MO. The position will include heavy public service duties at the Children's Desk serving customer inquiries in person, by telephone and by email. As the branch is currently involved in a building program to replace the existing facility, the candidate selected will be expected to help with the final details in planning the new building and transferring services to the new location. Other responsibilities are approximately 50% in Children's Services and 50% in Young Adult Services.
Young Adult Services responsibilities include: YA collection management and selection of all types of YA materials; planning and implementing of YA programs for customers grades 6 to 12 both in the branch and in the community; marketing of library materials and services both in the branch and in the community; outreach activities including presentations to community groups, forming partnerships with local agencies and representing the Library District at community events; and acting as a liaison with Young Adult staff both in the Branch and in the District.
Children's Services responsibilities include: shared responsibility for selection of children's materials; planning and implementing of Children's programs for children birth to grade 5 both in the branch and in the community; marketing of children's materials and services in the branch and in the community; outreach activities including presenting programs on children's books and early literacy to parents and other interested adults, partnering with local agencies serving children and representing the Library District at community events .
Working hours will include days, evenings and rotating Saturday hours. Candidate must have an accredited Masters of Library Science, excellent communication skills, experience working in public or customer service, and knowledge of children's and young adult literature. Prefer experience with programming for children and young adults, as well as, experience with Web 2.0 and social networking technologies. New graduates are encouraged to apply.
