Overview: |
Under minimal supervision, this position performs a variety of tasks related to provision of reference services and the library functions supporting it. These duties may include document and book acquisition, cataloging, bibliographic searches, development and maintenance of information sources and contacts, collection development, posting and maintaining information on an intranet or the Internet, and evaluating publications or products for inclusion in the collection. The incumbent may be assigned to perform any one or more of these specific functions. |
Responsibilities: |
· Prepares technical source material summaries and abstracts of a moderately complex nature. Performs literature searches. · Participates in the development and maintenance of information sources and contacts, including liaisons with professional organizations, government information collecting and disseminating operations, and private data services. · Removes items no longer worthy of retention on a routine basis. · Assists in documenting all reference transactions in the library usage database. · Assists in compilation of billing records for purchases and transactions made for researchers by the library. · Provides input to library management relative to the development of library policy. |
Qualifications: |
· BA/BS in library science or related academic discipline or information services field; demonstrable research experience preferred but not required. · Three or more years experience working in an information services environment, preferably one specializing in or supporting scientific and technical or military disciplines. · Experience with database platforms and management, and data management environments. · Experience with content-database integration and a range of database platforms. · Experience using online databases common to library reference work and information provision. · Knowledge of content and Web content management technologies, protocols, and development tools. · Direct experience integrating knowledge with portals/intranets and databases. · Ability to communicate effectively with all levels of employees. · Ability to obtain and maintain necessary security clearance. |
