Position Advertisement – Information Specialist (ACJNet)
The Legal Resource Centre (LRC) is a public legal education and non-profit organization committed to creating access to legal information for all Canadians. The LRC has designed and developed web sites and print resources in plain language for a variety of legal issues, users and learning styles. The Centre operates in a co-operative and collaborative environment, offers a pleasant, flexible work setting, and an excellent benefit package.
The Legal Resource Centre is seeking a motivated and enthusiastic individual to assist in the successful upgrade and revitalization of the Access to Justice Network (ACJNet), an internet portal that brings together people, information, and educational resources on justice and legal issues of interest to Canadians. This is a full-time position (35hours per week), starting January 2010 and ending December 2010.
Position Responsibilities
The successful applicant will understand how to organize information, how people use the web to find information, database structures, new search technologies, and how new technology can be used to assist the public to find information about the law.
The Information Specialist will handle the day-to-day work of the project, determining approach, setting and applying selection standards, working with contractors, ensuring accessibility options, examining current resources, revising annotations of resources to meet standards, and drafting annotations for new resources. In addition, this person will work with an advisory group and will have regular interactions with stakeholders and contractors.
Basic Requirements
Bachelor of Arts degree or equivalent.
Masters in Library and Information Studies desirable.
Important Skills
· A demonstrated commitment to the concept of public legal education
· Well-developed critical thinking skills
· A high degree of accuracy and attention to detail
- A familiarity with Microsoft products, desktop publishing, and web technologies is important
- Up-to-date knowledge of the technical requirements of web technologies an asset
· Demonstrated teamwork skills
· Good oral and written communications skills are a necessity
- Ability to work effectively in a flexible, but demanding and dynamic, environment
Salary
$45,000 – 48,000
