Education Services Librarian, Tulane University. The Rudolph Matas Library of the Health Sciences seeks a highly motivated instructional enthusiast who also enjoys providing personal service in a traditional and digital academic service-oriented environment that serves the communities of the School of Medicine, the School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine, the Tulane National Primate Research Center, and graduate programs in the health sciences.
The Educational Services Librarian plans, promotes and provides educational and instructional services that support the needs of faculty, researchers, staff and students of the Tulane Health Sciences Center community, including the community clinics run by Tulane University. The position reports to the Matas Library Director, and is a full-time, exempt, non-tenure track appointment. The incumbent serves as the education liaison with the School of Medicine’s Office of Medical Education and the School of Public Health & Tropical Medicine. The librarian will also work closely with the Coordinator of Information Services to provide reference and instruction at the public service desk.
REQUIREMENTS: ALA-accredited MLS or its equivalent. Minimum of 3 years experience providing reference and instruction services in an academic health sciences environment. Experience providing advanced information services, including searching biomedical and healthcare literature and database searching. At least 3 years increasing experience developing and coordinating educational programs in the health sciences library environment. Knowledge of the key concepts of Evidenced-Based Practice. Supervisory skills. Excellent oral and written communication skills. Excellent interpersonal skills with ability to work as a part of a team. Strong customer service skills.
Preferred: Experience teaching Evidenced-Based Practice Concepts including EBM resources and Critical Appraisal. Experience with course delivery software. Familiarity with issues in higher education. Experience with mobile devices and health sciences applications for PDAs and Smartphones. Knowledge of open access issues and scholarly communication.
Environment: Tulane University is an AAU/Carnegie Research I institution. The Rudolph Matas Library is located in downtown New Orleans at the Tulane University Health Sciences Center near the Historic French Quarter. Tulane’s main campus is located in picturesque uptown New Orleans. The library currently has upwards of 160,000 volumes, access to over 14,000 online journals and more than 600 electronic books. Matas Library underwent significant renovation in 2008 and has added new databases and resources for faculty, researchers, staff and students. During this period of change the library is seeking to build its professional staff by recruiting talented, energetic librarians interested in shaping the future of Tulane and New Orleans.
Compensation: Salary starts at $50,000 and is commensurate with qualifications and experience; preferred appointment level is Librarian III. Librarians are academic appointees, and do not have tenure or faculty rank, but in other respects receive the benefits of faculty members including 22 days paid vacation, sick leave, and tuition waiver.
