[IFLA-LPD] RE: Quick question re dyslexia

Hi Karen

At Vision Australia we do provide services to people with a perceptual disability.  Around 90% of our membership are in the blind and low vision category and 10% in the wider print disability category which includes dyslexia.

The current Australian Copyright Act has provisions for persons with a print disability, and defines this to mean:

·       A person without sight; or

·       A person whose sight is severely impaired; or

·       A person unable to hold or manipulate books or to focus or move his or her eyes; or

·       A person with a perceptual disability.

Over the past few years the Act has been reviewed and submissions sought for updating.  One of the considerations is provisions for a persons with a disability, rather than the differentiated  meanings for persons with a print disability and persons with an intellectual disability. We have submitted our response to indicate that we support this change.  The change will enable us to broaden our scope of delivery of services.

Kind regards

Anthea

Subject: [IFLA-LPD] Quick question re dyslexia

Dear colleagues,

I have a quick question for you.

Are you serving people with perceptual disabilities such as dyslexia?

If so, what percentage of the people you serve have perceptual disabilities such as dyslexia, and what percentage are blind, visually impaired or physically disabled?

Thanks in advance for your responses.
