Science Liaison and Reference Librarian- Collections, Research & Instruction
The Science Liaison and Reference Librarian will develop and manage research collections that include the sciences, mathematics, statistics and computer science, which combined have a materials budget of $2,600,000. She/He will also foster the development and expansion of research and instruction activities to meet the information needs and support the research and curricular goals of the University's science programs. The incumbent actively engages with faculty, students, and staff in assigned areas, developing strong relationships and promoting the Library's relevant services and collections.
Actual assignments will be made based on the successful candidate's experience and interests.
This position works directly with students (graduate and undergraduate), faculty, researchers, other University staff and administrators, University alumni, and members of the public.
With a second Science Liaison and Reference Librarian, the incumbent in this position develops collections housed in the Blommer Science Library and supports the students and faculty who use that library location primarily Blommer Science Library and is responsible for meeting the Information needs of users in at that location. The position reports directly to the Head of Collections, Research and Instruction.
Requirements:
- Masters in Library Science (MLS) accredited by the American Library Association, or equivalent
- Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in the sciences, math, statistics, computer science or related field preferred
- Knowledge of or experience with information resources in the sciences, math, statistics and/or computer science
- Two years minimum experience in the provision of public services (reference and instruction) in an academic or research library setting
- Ability to work with diverse, research-oriented students and faculty
Other Skills: Successful performance requires analytical ability, initiative, imagination, and excellent written and oral communication skills, as well as a broad-based interest in and current awareness of information technology applications for the delivery of scientific information.
