A Peace Corps Response Volunteer (PCRV) is needed to serve as a Library and Information Services Trainer for the St Lucia Public Library system in Castries, St. Lucia. Presently, the St. Lucia Public Library is not computerized, but has made significant progress with support from a PCRV. The public library system's main aim is the computerization of the library's information resources, functions and processes. This computerization will enable the St. Lucia Public Library to effectively organize and manage its collection. It will facilitate the effective execution of activities such as cataloguing, indexing, circulation, records management, over-dues, etc., and will also facilitate simple and complex searches. Improvement in these areas will enhance the libraries' ability to serve the people of St Lucia. The St Lucia Public Library system needs continued support from another PCRV to complete this information services project.

The PCRV will play a very important role in improving the quality of service the library offers by providing assistance, support and training in the computerization of library resources, functions, and processes. Specific duties of the PCRVs will include: Assisting with the installation of the Koha Integrated Library System (Koha) in all 9 assigned libraries; assisting the organization in computerizing all of its information resources in all libraries; training Librarians and Library Assistants in all aspects of the library management system including data entry, inventory, cataloguing and circulation, database creation and management, cataloguing, classification, indexing and information literacy; co-facilitating monthly meetings of the Teen Advisory Group; and providing marketing and outreach support for the official launch of the catalog system in order to raise awareness of the libraries' new initiative. The goal of this assignment is to build the capacity of the St Lucia Library system to absorb new technology and better serve the people of St Lucia.
