[LIBJOBS] United States, Casper, Library Director

Director—Natrona County Public Library — Casper, Wyoming

Literacy, Education and a Thriving Community—if these excite you, the Natrona County Public Library wants you as its next Library Director!  Join the Natrona County Public Library Board of Trustees and the nearly 81,000 Natrona County residents as NCPL and the community move into a period of expansion and growth. The successful Director will engage the community in continuing to provide a doorway to learning and literacy services and programs through the Main library in Casper, the Mills and Edgerton branches, a bookmobile and the books-by-mail program. Governed by a five-member Board of Trustees (appointed by the Board of County Commissioners), the Library is supported by a dedicated, progressive staff of 35 FTEs, a $2.9 million annual budget, and strong community services and programs. The Director is responsible for implementing policies and plans and providing for the effective operation of the system. Opportunities include exploring the possibilities and potentially developing a plan for funding and renovating its current facility and/or embarking on a capital campaign for a new facility, increasing the use of technology services for patrons, and continuing to develop new community partnerships. The successful Director will also work with and support the ongoing work of the Library Foundation and the Friends of the Library.

Natrona County has a rich heritage tied with American migration along the California, Oregon, Mormon Pioneer trails, Pony Express route, ranching-western lore, and the freewheeling boom-and-bust of the oil business. Located in Wyoming’s central plateau, the County’s 5,342 square miles include the municipalities of Casper (the county seat and second largest metropolitan area in the state), Midwest, Edgerton, Mills, Evansville, and Bar Nunn. The area’s economy is tied to natural resources, notably energy and agriculture. A pattern of boom and bust in the energy industry has made Casper’s business leaders aware of the need to diversify the economy and Casper has emerged as Wyoming’s business, financial, manufacturing, and retail center. As a result of its central location the area currently is experiencing vitality as Wyoming’s meeting place and transportation hub. Outdoor recreation remains an important industry and avocation—Alcova and Pathfinder reservoirs provide boating facilities, Casper Mountain hosts winter sports, Hogadon Ski Area offers three 600-foot vertical runs for skiers, a world class Biathlon and Nordic ski Center, golfers have access to four area courses and Casper Whitewater Park is a one half mile stretch of the North Platte River with four man-made rock features. Hunting and fishing are popular with residents and out-of-state visitors, many of them guided by local outfitters. Natrona County is proud of its “choice based” school district and the presence of Casper College and University of Wyoming Casper. For additional information on the area’s recreational, educational and cultural amenities see Natrona links.
