English and Humanities Librarian

Georgetown University Library seeks an active and engaged librarian to extend services and collections out into our active, vibrant research community.  The English and Humanities Librarian will support the teaching and research endeavors of the University community by providing research, reference, and instructional services, coordinating the organization and content of web pages, and developing and managing—in all relevant formats—the Library's collection for English and other humanities and/or social science disciplines as assigned.  

This position will serve as the expert for all services related to English and assigned humanities/social science areas, and provides reference and information services in social sciences, business, and the humanities, interpreting and analyzing the information needs of students, faculty, and other users of Lauinger Library.  Integral to this work are effective teaching and research sessions and creating guides and other instructional materials, employing new technologies to enhance reference and instruction services to reach users in an increasingly online environment.  In addition, the English Librarian is responsible for identifying, creating, managing, and maintaining the content of related web pages. 

This position will serve as the principal liaison and bibliographer to the English Department, but will also take liaison responsibility for other humanities and/or other social science disciplines as appropriate. The incumbent will develop collections in line with the pedagogical and research needs of the University and work closely with other bibliographers and faculty to understand and respond to research and curricular needs and to integrate the Library's collection and service resources into faculty research and curricular activities.  The incumbent will also contribute to cooperative collection development initiatives, maintain awareness of collection development and scholarly publishing trends in research, libraries, the commercial sector, and in federal depository libraries and will assist in monitoring vendors and materials budgets in assigned areas of responsibility. Will also be responsible for other duties as assigned based on departmental needs.  

Librarians at Georgetown participate in articulating and achieving library-wide priorities.

Qualifications:
Master's Degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution, or similarly appropriate/equivalent advanced degree is required.  
A second graduate degree in English is very strongly preferred but equivalent years of work and/or other equivalent expertise in this or other humanities fields will be considered.  
A minimum of two to three years experience providing reference and research services, preferably in an academic or research library environment. 
Must possess knowledge of English literature and associated fields such as composition and rhetoric.
Demonstrated experience in research methodologies, instruction and public services.
Demonstrated expertise in use of web-authoring applications. 
Knowledge of current instructional and multimedia technologies.  
Must be proficient in the use of standard office software such as word processing, spreadsheets, and email. 
Knowledge of digital humanities and/or digital social sciences preferred.   
Evidence of superior oral and written communication skills.  
Superior analytical and problem-solving skills.  
Record of participation and/or contribution in library professional organizations. 
Must have strong commitment to service, and the ability to work collaboratively in a dynamic environment, with all levels of patrons and staff.

Salary/Benefits/Rank: Salary commensurate with experience. Comprehensive benefits package including 21 days paid leave per year; medical; TIAA/CREF; tuition assistance. This is a 12-month, Academic/Administrative Professional (AAP) appointment.
