Assistant/Associate Dean of Public Services

The University of Mississippi Libraries invites applications and nominations for an Assistant/Associate Dean of Public Services. Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, this position provides strategic leadership for the Public Services departments and units including reference, access services, instruction, web services, interlibrary loan, and the Science Library. Additionally, the Assistant/Associate Dean provides administrative oversight of personnel, budgets, and activities; insures appropriate internal and external communication; and serves as the primary advocate to ensure that the Library gives excellent service as it responds to current and future needs of the user community. The Assistant/Associate Dean of Public Services will serve on key leadership teams in the library. This is a tenure track position with the expectation of ongoing achievement in librarianship, research, and service.

Incumbent's Responsibilities:
• Develop, motivate, and inspire a highly effective public services team
• Continue the library's commitment to innovative, user-centered services 
• Cultivate a climate of openness, responsiveness, collaboration, and respect for diverse viewpoints
• Provide leadership and vision in a collaborative framework for strategic planning, resource management, and assessment
• Build relationships and work with a variety of library and campus partners
• Use excellent organizational, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills

Required Qualifications: 
 MLS from an ALA accredited institution
• Minimum of seven years of progressively responsible experience in an academic or research library, with a minimum of five years of managerial experience
• Demonstrated ability to engage librarians and staff in successful team work in the delivery of user-centered services
• A collaborative leadership style that prepares and empowers others to excel
• Significant experience with library collections and information resources
• Strong grasp of current issues, trends, and technologies impacting higher education and academic libraries 
• Experience with strategic planning and assessment
• A record of success in developing productive partnerships on campus and beyond
• Record of scholarly achievement and service commensurate with appointment

Compensation is commensurate with skills and experience. The salary begins at a minimum of $80,000 with a competitive benefits package.
