Duties and Responsibilities

UCL Qatar is seeking an exceptional and experienced individual for the key role of Librarian. This will be a challenging new post to set up and deliver a service for staff and students at UCL Qatar. The post holder will be responsible for all library services of UCL Qatar, initially sharing the library space and infrastructure with Georgetown University at Qatar.

 

The successful candidate will encompass both management and subject responsibilities. Management responsibilities will include the hiring, supervision and management of staff and services. One floor of the Georgetown University Library will house the UCL Qatar collections and facilities and be under the direct management of the post-holder, but matters relating to procedures and services in the shared library will be under the auspices of the Georgetown University library staff.

 

UCL Qatar, working in partnership with the Qatar Foundation, is creating a world-class research-led facility, focusing on the cultures and societies of the Middle East, and including the study of Islamic material culture and early technology. This is an exceptionally important international development for UCL Qatar.

 

Key Requirements

Applications are sought from candidates with significant experience in planning and execution in the acquisition of specialist materials to build up a research collection on the archaeology and culture of Islamic countries and the Arab world (especially the Middle East and North Africa).

 

The successful candidate will have a degree in a relevant subject or significant knowledge of relevant resources, qualification in Librarianship or Information Studies and staff management experience, including recruitment, performance management and staff development. The selected applicant will work in close co-operation with Hamad bin Khalifa University's future Central Library.
