[LIBJOBS] USA - Roanoke, Virginia - University Librarian

Wyndham Robertson Library at Hollins University

Position announcement – University Librarian

Hollins University seeks an innovative and skilled University Librarian to build upon the tradition of outstanding services and programs that was recognized with the 2009 ACRL Excellence in Academic Libraries Award.

The University Librarian reports to the Vice President for Academic Affairs, and oversees all facets of the Wyndham Robertson Library’s daily operations and mission in support of academic programs (the undergraduate liberal arts program for women, as well as seven distinctive, co-educational graduate programs). Responsibilities include setting strategies for the library’s programs and services, supervision of all library staff, and development of the library’s budgets to ensure acquisition of library materials. The University Librarian ideally serves as one of four liaison librarians, providing support for instruction, reference, and collection development to a designated division of the undergraduate academic program. The position of University Librarian is a 12-month administrative position with faculty status, but without tenure eligibility. The new hire will assume the role no later than July 1, 2013.

The successful candidate will demonstrate strong leadership qualities, professional and personal integrity, excellent interpersonal communication skills, high motivation, and the ability to work collaboratively and creatively with other university departments. Ideal preparation for this position includes:

·         Master’s degree in Library or Information Science from an ALA-accredited program. A second graduate degree credential is preferred.

·         Evidence of professional engagement, service, and/or scholarship.

·         Experience effectively managing budgets and people.

·         Dedication to academic excellence and outstanding service.

·         Commitment to meeting the dynamic needs of a diverse campus community.

·         Aptitude for working effectively with a wide range of colleagues and desire to foster a collegial environment.

·         At least five years of related experience with progressive responsibility.

·         Awareness of practices that support an inclusive learning and work environment.

The Wyndham Robertson Library is a collaborative library environment dedicated to the support of the liberal arts curriculum and service to the Hollins community. Materials are housed in the main library, a national Literary Landmark, which houses 250,000 print volumes, and also in the Eric Rath Music Library. The library enjoys a strong relationship with the campus community, and its instruction program is incorporated as part of the university’s first-year seminars. Additional information about the library can be found online at http://www.hollins.edu/library/about/mission.shtml

Apply electronically by forwarding an application letter, CV, and contact information for five references to LibrarianSearch@hollins.edu. Application review will begin immediately. Submissions should be received by October 31, 2012 in order to receive full consideration.
