MEDIA SPECIALIST

CMS is now hiring Media Specialists to engage and make a difference in the lives of our students.  In this 10 month position, you’ll work with a diverse group of students in a school district that has been hailed as a “Model for innovation in urban education” by Arne Duncan, the U.S. Secretary of Education. Join us—and help every student, every day, for a better tomorrow.  You will provide leadership services to students and teachers, and resources for the implementation of the school media program that serves as an integral part of the instructional process.

Qualifications:

·         Master’s degree in Library Science or related field

·         Valid North Carolina Media Coordinator Certificate preferred.  Applicants must at least be eligible for Media Coordinator licensure.

·         2+ years of Media Center experience preferred

 

Responsibilities:

·         Instructs students and faculty in using and/or producing media to integrate into the curriculum and facilitate the teaching/learning.

·         Initiates interaction with students, staff, administration and the general public for purposes of integrating, promoting, and expanding the media program.

·         Designs and implements short and long-range plans integrating information and computer skills instruction, literature appreciation, coordination of teacher planning, and collection management and development.

·         Establishes and implements procedures for selection, acquisition, cataloging, processing, accessing, and maintaining materials and equipment.  Selects acquisitions; prepares, receives, and inspects orders; processes material and places on shelves; files catalog and shelf list cards; maintains card and/or on-line catalog, etc. Weeds collection and makes minor repairs to materials and equipment.

·         Organizes and manages the facility and resources integrating school objectives and goals with the media program.  Ensures compliance with safety and health requirements.

·         Trains and supervises media and student assistants and/or volunteers; assembles materials displays; produces newsletters and disseminates information at faculty meetings.

·         Ensures school media center compliance with ADA, copyright laws, selection policies, inventory procedures, state contract guidelines, and school purchase requirements.

·         Prepares and administers the school media program budget and related reports.

·         Participates on a variety of school committees; attends and participates in professional groups and committees.

 

Starting Salary:  $38,955.80 (pay increases based on years of experience and degree)
