The Pennsylvania State University Libraries seeks an entrepreneurial, proactive and creative librarian to provide general and specialized reference and instructional services at the Penn State Great Valley Campus Library.  The Reference, Instruction and Distance Education Librarian will be a member of the University Libraries faculty and will work as a member of the Penn State Great Valley Library team.  This is a non-tenure track, fixed term position appointed for one year from date of hire with the possibility of renewal.
 
The successful candidate will have good capability with emerging instructional and information technologies and the ability to integrate these technologies into instruction and patron outreach programs and initiatives.  They should have experience creating and maintaining Web 2.0 social networking tools for eLearning, e.g., blogs, wikis, etc. as well as working with a course management system.  This position is also responsible for coordinating library instruction including teaching a variety of library instruction sessions for students using traditional and electronic formats and providing support for distance education students; developing online instructional materials, scheduling instruction sessions, and conducting research consultations.  Other duties include reference desk coverage (mostly evening and possible weekend hours), support of instructional design technologies, coordinating the Great Valley library web presence, liaison responsibilities with teaching faculty, and research assistance as well as collection development activities.
 
REQUIREMENTS: Requires a Masters of Library Science degree from an ALA-accredited program (or equivalent); reference and instruction experience in an academic or research library; excellent interpersonal, decision-making, and oral and written communication skills; ability to build and maintain positive collaborative relationships; and strong commitment to service.  Preferred qualifications include strong knowledge of current instructional design principles and technology as well as electronic information resources; experience in collection development; demonstrated knowledge of academic and library applications of Web 2.0 technologies, and a commitment to diversity.  A subject-related advanced degree is desirable.

The Libraries hold membership in ARL, OCLC, and CRL. Collections exceed 5.3 million volumes, including more than 88,000 current serial subscriptions. The University Libraries are located at University Park and 23 other locations throughout Pennsylvania, with approximately 6,000 faculty and 42,000 students at University Park, and more than 92,000 students system wide.
 
Penn State Great Valley School of Graduate Professional Studies is located in Malvern, Pennsylvania.  The campus is just west of King of Prussia, about 45 minutes from Philadelphia and three hours from University Park.
