Communications Librarian – Seton Hall University Libraries                

 

Duties and Responsibilities:

To serve as the primary liaison, provide selection, teaching, discovery, and delivery of digital and print information resources for the College of Communication and the Arts (C&A) within Seton Hall University Libraries.  Provide general and specialized reference services in all appropriate mediums including individual and small group research consultation - with occasional evening and/or weekend shifts, and staffing of the virtual and in-person reference services.  Manage digital and print collections in support of C&A (and other assigned fields) curricula and research in the discovery, evaluation, and organization of scholarly resources as both specialist and generalist. Develop content for C&A research subject web pages. Provide outreach to faculty and administration in subject departments and collaborate with faculty colleagues to achieve information literacy learning outcomes, including providing instruction sessions, research guides, tutorials, and assessment of library services. The position will work on departmental initiatives, take on additional subject areas as needed, and actively participate in Library and University committees and projects, as well as pertinent professional organizations and development opportunities.  This is a tenure-eligible, full-time Library faculty position, requiring a second graduate degree, annual reviews (including a comprehensive third year review), and scholarship for promotion and tenure.

Required Qualifications:

 

MLS from an ALA-accredited graduate program. A degree (undergraduate or graduate) in one (or more) of these disciplines:  Communication, Graphic Design and Advertising, Interactive Media, Public Relations, Journalism, Visual and Sound Media, and/or Strategic Communication – or a closely related field. Experience providing library instruction, or creating library instruction materials such as assignments, research guides and tutorials for college-level students and faculty. Experience providing C&A information, reference and research consultation service in an academic library setting. Evidence of a strong commitment to student-centered services. Extensive knowledge of academic electronic information resources and an awareness of current issues in academic library services. Evidence of excellent communication, public speaking, teaching, writing and analytical skills. Demonstrated willingness to respond to new opportunities with initiative, creative energy, and leadership.

 

Desired Qualifications:

 

A graduate or undergraduate Communications degree, or three or more years of successful academic library experience at a university with a Communications School. Experience working in the communications field such as media, public relations, graphic design or journalism. Experience building and maintaining collections. Experience providing library instruction and/or with outreach projects. Experience using new and emerging technologies for public service and instruction in an academic library setting. Proven ability to work collaboratively. Evidence of problem solving skills. Experience related to the duties.
