Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian

University of South Carolina School of Law, Coleman Karesh Law Library

 

The Coleman Karesh Law Library at the University of South Carolina School of Law seeks an enthusiastic, highly organized, detail-oriented colleague for the position of Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian.

The Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian engages in ordering, receiving, and claiming materials as needed, and will research, develop, and maintain relationships with vendors, publishers, and other library consortia for the benefit of the law school community. Is responsible for monitoring and spending the library’s annual materials budget and for all the procedures involved in the receipt and payment of invoices and for the acquisition of approval and firm orders.  The Acquisitions and Electronic Resources Librarian is responsible for all phases of the procurement, management, and evaluation of electronic resources introduced into the law library collection.

Qualifications:

MLS from an ALA-accredited institution by job start date

Demonstrated aptitude for detail-oriented work; strong analytic problem-solving skills; ability to work well under pressure and meet deadlines; demonstrated experience handling multiple priorities and/or projects

Excellent oral and written communication skills

Willingness to learn new processes and procedures; ability to take direction as well as provide direction to others; flexible and positive attitude

Demonstrated ability to use spreadsheets and database programs to manage data resources

Experience with acquisitions operations in an academic environment or a complex library such as a law library or special library

Experience with the III Millennium integrated library system, especially related to the acquisitions module

Experience setting up an ERM

Experience with the variations of electronic resources: licensing, packages, platforms, aggregators, and vendors

The Coleman Karesh Law Library is the largest law library in South Carolina, and one of the larger in the Southeast, serving a vibrant and diverse patron base.  The Law Library, which will be moving to a new state-of-the-art building in 2017, is independently administered, with a collection of over 500,000 volumes, robust electronic resource access, and a staff of 15. It is situated in the state capital, Columbia, a city with easy access to mountains and beaches. This city and region is just being discovered for its attractive, active lifestyle and affordable cost of living, and is one with a deep historical heritage and a rich tradition of catering to a wide variety of sports and the arts.
