Marrakesh Treaty in the United States:

On February 10, 2016, the U.S. President sent a treaty package to the Senate requesting ratification of the Marrakesh treaty.

The treaty package was Received in the Senate and referred to the Committee on Foreign Relations by unanimous consent.

No additional official action has been taken on ratification of the treaty to date.

Subject: [IFLA-LPD] Activities around the Marrakesh VIP Treaty

Dear Colleagues,

We are all hopeful that the Marrakesh Treaty will be ratified by 20 countries and come into force very soon. This is a very exciting time, but one which requires us to look at new resources and new methods for accessing and sharing those new resources. Certainly the WIPO Accessible Book Consortium will be a major player in cross-border sharing once ratification is complete, but I am sure that many avenues for sharing will be explored.

I am gathering information on activities of our members around ratification and/or implementation of the Marrakesh Treaty.

If you are aware of, and/or involved in, activities to promote ratification either for your country or in general, please send a note to this list sharing what you’re doing.

If you are making plans for implementation activities once it’s ratified, please also share that information.

Thank you in advance for sharing your ideas and activities. Combining our creativity, knowledge and energies, we will all be able to better serve people who are print-disabled.

Sincerely,

Karen Keninger, Chair, IFLA/LPD
