PURDUE UNIVERSITY CALUMET POSITION VACANCY NOTICE

ELECTRONIC RESOURCES LIBRARIAN

 

 

 

 

RESPONSIBILITIES:

 

Responsible for taking the leadership role in the negotiation, procurement, renewal and management of electronic information resources purchased by Purdue Calumet as well as consortia resources. Collaborates with the other librarians in developing policies and workflows. Serves as a liaison to vendors regarding electronic resource trials, acquisitions. Collect and analyze usage statistics for electronic resources; manage the display and promotion of resources in various library systems and website; participate in assessment of electronic resources. Responsible for maintaining the knowledgebase and maintaining current awareness of emerging trends and best practices in resource access and discoverability; and serve on the library-wide collection development team. Creates original and complex derivative (copy) cataloging MARC catalog records for all Purdue Calumet Library’s materials in all formats (monographs, continuing and integrated resources, microforms, non-book, electronic, etc.) into the OCLC WorldCat database and Purdue Calumet’s integrated library system (Alma). Maintain an effective flow of materials in and out of the unit according to local standards and expectations. Maintain knowledge base for electronic collections. Maintain established local standards for quality of work and productivity. Oversee the daily operation of Acquisitions Unit, including supervising 1.0 FTE clerical staff. Provide reference service as part of evening/weekend rotation both in classroom, at reference help desk, online and by telephone.

 

Required:

 

·               Master's degree in library science with a specialization in electronic resources from an ALA-accredited institution. December 2014 or May 2015 graduates may also be considered

·               Two years as an electronic resource manager linking technology (Open URL resolver) and discovery tools

·               Experience in providing research assistance both in classroom, in person, online and by telephone using Primo or other types of institutional repository software

·               Must be available to work evenings and weekends as part of the reference team rotation

·               Ability to work independently as well as part of a team emphasizing a good balance between quality and productivity; set and adjust priorities and workflows in a dynamic and changing environment; and accept new challenges in order to realize departmental and library goals

·               Capacity to respond effectively to change, including changing technologies, needs, and priorities, multitask and prioritize.

·               Working knowledge of non-MARC Metadata schema such as Dublin Core as well as working knowledge of national cataloging standards such as AACR2 and LCSH

·               Demonstrated ability to collect, analyze, manipulate, and provide meaningful interpretation of data related to serials and electronic resources

·               Comprehensive familiarity with database and web-based resource management

·               Ability to work with vendors and publishers to establish good working relationships that lead to effective solutions for the campus

·               Strong supervisory skills as well as analytical and organizational skills and a continuing commitment to professional development and growth

 

Preferred:

·               Two years original and copy cataloging experience in accordance with national standards

·               Experience with the Ex Libris Library Management System (Alma)
