Instruction and User Services Librarian

 

                            The University Library seeks a dynamic, service-oriented, forward-thinking, and technologically knowledgeable librarian to join the Library faculty as an Instruction and User Services Librarian.  This is a tenure-track twelve-month position.  The Library faculty report to the Dean of Library Services.

 

                                      The Instruction and User Services Librarian will be a core member of the Library instruction program and participate in the development, provision, and assessment of instruction services, including face-to-face reference desk service; virtual reference services such as IM and Chat; course-based classroom instruction sessions; credit-based research and information literary courses; and web-based learning objects and tutorials.  The Library faculty seeks a colleague who possesses a passion for innovative library services and is technologically prepared for learning and utilizing current and emerging library and educational technologies.  Faculty librarians serve as liaisons to academic departments for collection development and library outreach, and participate in library and university faculty governance.  To be recommended for tenure and promotion, library faculty must demonstrate proficiency in the areas of librarianship; research, scholarship and/or creative activities; and participation in university affairs.

 

Rank and Salary:  Senior Assistant Librarian.  Salary range: $57,084-$72,132, commensurate with experience and qualifications.  The CSU System offers an extremely competitive benefits package.

 

Required Qualifications:  ALA-accredited or equivalent graduate degree if earned from outside the U.S. or Canada.  Knowledge of library instructional and reference methods.  Demonstrated potential for effective teaching.  Proven ability and experience in using library and educational technologies.  Ability to work in a team-based environment and strong project management skills.  Strong organizational, communication, and writing skills.  Interest in working in a multicultural and multi-ethnic environment.

 

Preferred Qualifications:  Professional-level experience in an academic library, preferably in the areas of reference and instruction.  Working experience with learning management software (e.g., Blackboard).  Substantial experience in creating and maintaining web pages and/or developing digital learning objects and presentations.  Advanced degree in another discipline.
