The University of Mary Washington is seeking an experienced librarian to serve as Content Organization and Management Librarian, with oversight of collection development, acquisitions, government documents, and cataloging.

 

Position Description

The Content Organization and Management Librarian provides leadership and coordination of collection management activities, including acquisitions, bibliographic control, government documents, collection analysis and assessment, collections budget development and management for collections. This librarian plans and develops policies, workflows, and special projects relating to acquisitions, bibliographic control, government documents, and collection development, and develops and implements strategies for the effective acquisition and discovery of library resources in all formats.

The Content Organization and Management Librarian monitors and evaluates trends related to resource acquisition, description, discovery and access, develops collection assessment strategies, and maintains statistics for unit activities. In addition, this librarian coordinates the selection of new library resources with the subject librarians and the faculty.

This librarian serves on the reference desk, including occasional Saturday duty. The librarian serves on library and campus committees and participates in the libraries' planning and assessment processes.  

 

Required Qualifications

-MLIS from an ALA-accredited institution of higher education
-Demonstrated knowledge of current and emerging trends, issues, and methods of access to scholarly resources, combined with a strong service orientation
-Demonstrated knowledge and experience in acquisitions, cataloging and metadata standards, issues, trends and best practices
-Experience using bibliographic utilities and integrated library systems
-Ability to interact effectively with a broad range of staff within the Library, the University and in collaborative initiatives with other institutions
-At least 3 years of managerial experience in an academic or research library
-Excellent interpersonal, communication, and presentation skills  

 

Preferred Qualifications

-Working knowledge of metadata standards such as MARC, EAD, and Dublin Core  

 

Pay Rate

Salary is commensurate with experience.
