Job Summary/Basic Function:

Delgado Community College Libraries seeks an innovative and service-oriented Librarian to assist in the daily operations of the Cataloging & Acquisitions departments. The Technical Services/Serials Librarian will also take a lead role in managing Library Serials and assist in the overall delivery of library and information services, including staff support and college-wide information literacy instruction.

  

Minimum Qualifications/ Work Experience:

Two years of experience working in a library; Strong information technology skills; Knowledge of and ability to manage library serials collection; Knowledge of library technical services daily operations including cataloging and acquisitions functions; Effective oral and written communication skills; Ability to work with diverse populations; Ability to effectively work independently and in collaboration with groups; Ability to travel between branch sites as needed  

 

Preferred Qualifications/ Work Experience:

Two years of professional library work at a community college library in Technical Services; Experience working with SirsiDynix, specifically with Serials and Cataloging Modules; Working knowledge of cataloging procedures and serials management; Experience providing technology training and hands-on library instruction

 

Minimum Education:

Master of Library and Information Science (MLIS) from a college or university accredited by the American Library Association.

Works with Coordinator of Cataloging on various catalog maintenance projects including, but not limited to bibliographic enhancement, authority control, and material reclassification; Assists in the supervision of the cataloging, classification, and processing of all library materials; Makes assignments to staff and provides technical training as needed; Continually assesses and develops procedures for processing all library materials; Assists in drafting bibliographic maintenance and automation policies, as assigned; Maintains library's holdings in OCLC; Performs other duties as assigned by Cataloging Department

Works with Coordinator of Collection Development on various collection management projects including, but not limited to selection of library materials, curriculum program reviews and routine weeding; Compiles monthly collection statistics and creates reports as needed; Plans, organizes and implements special projects as needed, or as determined by Coordinator; Performs initial review of gift materials and recommends relevant materials to Coordinator; Works with acquisitions department to select, order, receive and process periodicals, microforms and Louisiana Documents for use by library patrons; Researches and compiles periodicals lists for college divisional program accreditation; Performs other duties as assigned by Acquisitions Department

Executes daily operations of Technical Services and takes lead role in the absence of Coordinators; Recommends and implements appropriate changes in Technical Services policies and procedures; Assists in preparing annual budget as it relates to Technical Services' needs; Develops orientation programs, in-service training and continuing education opportunities for all Library staff; Participates in selecting personnel for Technical Services department; Assists in supervision of Technical Services staff with recommendations to the Cataloging and Acquisitions Coordinators; Provides leadership in establishing effective working relationships and communication, ensuring high productivity; Maintains a working knowledge of contemporary issues, trends, and technology in the library profession

Provides information literacy classes to Students, Faculty and Staff; Performs reference work as needed; Participates in computer lab management as needed; Assists with supervision of Public Services staff and student employees; Serves as library liaison for Business and Technology Division; Participates in division, campus, college and state-wide committees; Attends faculty convocations; Attends at least one commencement exercise per academic year; Participates in job related activities of professional and community organizations; Attends job related workshops and conferences; Assists in any library service as required in an emergency; Performs miscellaneous duties as assigned by the College-wide Dean of Library Services
