Web Services Librarian

Tenure Track Position

 

 

Concordia University Libraries seeks an innovative, dynamic and skilled librarian for the tenure-track position of Web Services Librarian.

 

The Web Services Librarian takes overall responsibility for the design and management of the Libraries’ website. The incumbent works collaboratively to develop, support and manage the Library's web presence, applying principles of usability and accessibility, and to develop functionalities and features that consistently improve the web delivery of services to students, faculty, staff and the wider community. He/she liaises with the University Communications Services to ensure the Libraries’ website complies with the University’s visual identity and strategic priorities. 

 

The Web Services Librarian reports to the Associate University Librarian, Information Systems and Technology.

 

Main responsibilities:

 

Provide vision, leadership, and expertise in the organization, design and maintenance of the Libraries’ website and mobile presence.

 

Work closely with other professionals to plan for current and future web interfaces, technologies and innovations to the site in order to improve the users’ experience and the Libraries web presence, and to ensure compliance with web standards and University guidelines.

 

Ensure that the Libraries’ website offers a dynamic, interactive and user-friendly experience.

 

Collaborate with librarians and staff to conceptualize, implement and improve the delivery of library services on the Libraries’ website and on other University web systems.

 

Ensure the website is aligned with the Libraries overall strategic communications framework.

 

Participate in the development, implementation and support of  other library applications such as the Library web catalogue (WebPAC), mobile sites and other systems.

 

Essential qualifications:

 

Graduate degree from a library school accredited by the American Library Association, or approved equivalent education and training acceptable for membership in the Corporation of Professional Librarians of Quebec and (2) years of relevant work experience or less depending on the relevance of the experience.

 

Knowledge of website development and administration using standards-based, user-centered information architecture.

 

Knowledge of issues surrounding web site development and maintenance.

 

Knowledge of different web browsers, web standards, cross-platform design issues.

 

Knowledge of and experience with XHTML/CSS, XML and JavaScript. Knowledge of PHP an asset.

 

Strong leadership abilities, communication skills and interpersonal skills to manage projects, work with teams and provide training.

 

Demonstrated project management & organizational skills; ability to effectively manage multiple projects concurrently.

 

Oral and written fluency in English is essential. Good conversational French is an asset.

The Libraries uses the Millennium integrated library management system provided by Innovative Interfaces for most of its library systems functions, the open source EPrints software as its Digital Research Repository platform and VDX as its ILL system. Future plans include the migration of the Libraries’ website to a state of the art University CMS system. The Libraries’ Information Systems and Technology unit is currently composed of two systems analysts, four librarians, four technicians and one programmer. The unit maintains a wide array of hardware and applications software for both staff and student use. Salary and Benefits:

 

Compensation and rank are commensurate with qualifications and experience. The position includes a competitive and comprehensive benefit package.

 

Librarians are members of the Concordia University Faculty Association (CUFA). Responsibilities include research, publication and service to meet requirements for tenure and promotion.

 

Appointment will commence immediately or at a date to be negotiated.
