GENERAL DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Dean of Libraries, the Assistant Dean for User Services and Outreach will provide leadership and vision for Illinois Institute of Technology Libraries' public service and outreach initiatives. As a member of the management team, this position will help define library strategic directions and contribute to organizational effectiveness, as well as initiate and lead specific partnerships with other IIT campus units. The position will be expected to actively collaborate with administrators and staff in the continued development of an innovative and user engagement-focused culture.

Responsibilities will include:

Providing leadership for areas of User Services and Outreach, including Circulation Services, Interlibrary Loan, Reserve Services, Marketing and Outreach, coordination of 24 hour services, as well as active contribution to the coordination of user spaces, including the Exploration Space. Leading the development of a coordinated direction for library outreach and marketing, including identifying opportunities for institutional development. Outreach initiatives should include activities reaching out to both domestic and international graduate and undergraduate students and student groups, faculty and researchers, IIT Alumni, other campus units and departments, and other internal and external library partners. Providing oversight and maintenance of public policies as well as designated staffing budget responsibilities. Representing IIT Libraries at campus, regional, and national levels. Pursuing personal professional development and contributing to the profession through local and national professional and scholarly activities.


Requirements

Education & Experience:

Masters degree in Library Science from an ALA-accredited institution. Three years' supervisory experience in an academic or research library. Must demonstrate strong organizational & planning skills. Must possess strong communication, interpersonal skills, and the ability to interact effectively
with colleagues.
Relevant experience in the areas of the provision, training, and management of public service, as well as in assessment and evaluation of service for continuous improvement.
 Proven record of success in administering and managing projects, including ability to evaluate and communicate project value.
 Experience providing circulation, reserve, and/or interlibrary loan services in an academic environment.

 Preferred Skills:

Demonstrated oral communication skills with the ability to be an effective, active listener, and facilitator.
 Ability to work effectively and collegially with a diverse population of faculty, students, and staff.
 Experience with managing student and work-study budgets
 Grant writing and/or fundraising experience preferred.
