Schedule:                            Full-time (37.5 hours per week); Standard Work Week (M-F, 8:30 – 5:00)

POSITION DESCRIPTION

Reporting to the Sr. Web Programmer in Library Access Integration Services (LAIS), the Programmer Analyst is responsible for the design, development, testing, installation, and maintenance of Library web applications. Provides technical support for the development of productivity enhancement applications for use by Library staff in Microsoft SharePoint.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES

Designs, creates, tests, installs and implements web-based applications and systems of simple to moderate complexity to meet the Library’s needs. May make modifications to existing systems at all levels of difficulty. Participates in the decisions related to the development of programs and systems. Analyzes user needs, time and budget constraints, and develops proposals for new systems/interfaces or modifications to existing systems/interfaces. Users can be internal to the Library or external University constituents. Develops requirements and programming specifications for applications with a global audience. Serves as liaison with library and University departments for requirements gathering, solution recommendations, problem solving and technical enhancements. Evaluates and recommend software for acquisition. Keeps current with existing and emerging technologies and methodologies that are relevant to the job position. Recommends and implements new technologies as appropriate. May be required to assist in disaster recovery efforts. May be assigned to work at West Campus location in West Haven, CT.

 

QUALIFICATIONS

Bachelor's degree in a relevant area and three years of programming experience; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Strong knowledge and experience with general web architecture. Demonstrated experience developing web sites using HTML, CSS, and XML. Experience with object-oriented programming using one or more of the following: VBScript, Java, Visual Basic, ASP, or C#. Experience in developing SOAP and REST web service applications.

 

Ability to work closely with functional stakeholders and hands-on with technical teams. Ability to specify, deliver, and support web infrastructure services in a project-driven environment. Excellent interpersonal skills, with ability to both lead or participate as a member of a project team. Excellent oral and written communication, organizational, and planning skills. Understanding of project management techniques and methodologies.. Demonstrated skills for customer service and support. Excellent analytical and problem solving skills. Must be a fast learner with a strong desire and motivation to learn about Yale and the higher education environment. Knowledge of PHP, HTML, CSS, Javascript, XML and XSLT. Advanced knowledge of HTML and web programming and scripting languages such as VBScript, Visual Basic, ASP and [dot]Net or Java. Demonstrated ability to work well independently and with others in a rapidly changing and demanding environment.

 

Preferred: Advanced degree in related field. Knowledge and experience with Microsoft SharePoint. Experience in template creation in a web content management system like Drupal, Cascade, RedDot, or other template-based system.
