[LIBJOBS] Qatar - Doha - Unix Server Administrator

The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public of Qatar, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of educational and research opportunities, services and programs supported by comprehensive collections of print and digital materials. The library building, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in the first quarter of 2011 with an anticipated opening in the summer 2013.

 

The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of Unix Server Administrator.

 

POSITION SUMMARY:
The Unix Server Administrator is responsible for ensuring and maintaining system availability, integrity and security of the Central Library servers through performing system administration tasks, including installation of server operating systems, patch management, performance monitoring, tuning, maintenance and system back-up.
The administrator will maintain the hardware and software infrastructure in SUN environment including managing a large capacity SAN storage/tape environment.

The administrator will work collaboratively with IT staff and other system administrators to provide stable applications for the Central Library.


JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:

-          Specify, install, configure, and maintain hardware as well as recommend hardware and software to ensure compliance with needs and requirements. 

-          Install and configure server and operating systems and related layered software to ensure standards and procedures are maintained.

-          Monitor system security and undertake all system administration activities for requested services to ensure timely software security updates are implemented.

-          Maintain library systems including a client/server library management system, Web server, on-line public catalogs, preservation and access Digital Repository, and other digital library applications.

-          Identify and develop performance measurement plans and techniques and coordinate data collection on the response time and system resource utilization for tuning and capacity planning purposes.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

-          Minimum Bachelor's degree in Information Technology or a related field.

-          Sun SOLARIS certification or equivalent relevant system administration certifications 

-          Minimum five years experience as a Systems Administrator preferably in the education sector.

-          Knowledge in some or all of the following: Apache, IIS, JBoss/J2EE Application Servers, Tomcat, MySQL.

-          Experience of working in SUN environment.

-          Experience with Unix, Perl, Java and C++

-          Experience with LAN/WAN protocols and network infrastructure.
