[LIBJOBS] Qatar- Doha - Senior Information Services Librarian

The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public of Qatar, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of educational and research opportunities, services and programs supported by comprehensive collections of print and digital materials. The library building, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in the first quarter of 2011 with an anticipated opening in the summer 2013.

 

The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of Senior Information Services Librarian.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The incumbent will act as a team leader in developing, implementing and assessing Information Literacy, Reference and Reader’s Advisory programs and services in both print and electronic environments in an assigned discipline area.  The position will be responsible for collection management and liaison activities within the subject discipline.  The position will participate in developing and delivering outreach activities to Qatar based organizations and business to support the information, research, learning and recreational reading needs of Qatar.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Coordinate the activities of the assigned Information Services team within a subject discipline (Humanities, Social Sciences, Science or Fine Arts) to effectively provide Information Literacy, Research, Reference and Reader’s Advisory Services.

·         Develop public programs such as ESL / EFL, author visits, book clubs, public lectures etc. to enhance learning.

·         Manage the collection in an assigned subject area.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent

·         3 years of progressively experience in Information Services with hands on experience in the development and delivery of Information Literacy programs.

·         Demonstrated evidence of team leadership and facilitation skills
