[LIBJOBS] Qatar - Doha - Systems Librarian

The Qatar Foundation is establishing a state-of-the-art Central Library to serve the diverse information needs of the residents of the State of Qatar. The Central Library, to be located in Education City, will take a leadership role in meeting Qatar Foundation’s goals to become Qatar's premier information resource for the academic, research and public community. It will serve the general public of Qatar, universities, schools, research institutes and Education City partners. The Central Library will offer a suite of educational and research opportunities, services and programs supported by comprehensive collections of print and digital materials. The library building, designed by Dutch architect Rem Koolhaas, is scheduled for ground breaking in the first quarter of 2011 with an anticipated opening in the summer 2013.

 

The Central Library seeks dynamic, innovative, service-oriented and culturally sensitive applicants for the position of Systems Librarian.

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Systems Librarian is responsible for the management, routine housekeeping and system maintenance tasks to support Millennium Library system and other library applications. The position reports directly to the Head, Library Systems and is also accountable to the Associate Director of Library Information Technology in regard to systems development tasks carried out on the Central Library servers.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

·         Support the ILS application and client issues of public and library staff

·         Upgrade system to new version

·         Administer and support other library applications, including but not limited to Inter Library Loan software, OCLC software and other as purchased

·         Design and implement web based user services, including remote access to the electronic resources and dynamic web content

·         Maintaining ongoing data exchange with other systems, inwards and outwards

·         Administer and provide support to ENCORE Synergy, web OPAC and other Millennium modules.

REQUIREMENTS & PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

·         Masters degree in Library or Information Science accredited by the American Library Association or foreign equivalent.

·         Minimum two years of experience managing and/or supporting library information systems and technology.

·         Experience in supporting and working with Library management System modules, previous experience with Millennium would be an advantage.

·         Experience with installing, upgrading, configuring and maintaining server-based applications in UNIX environment.
