The Allen County Public Library (Fort Wayne, IN) is going through a transformation.  We are reimagining our role in the community and our approach to serving it, as we develop in 2017 a new strategic plan that is forward thinking, customer centric, and focused on community impact.  We have several new leadership opportunities available:

 

STRATEGIC INITIATIVES MANAGER

This position will be a key component in the development of a new strategic plan and implementation efforts.  Responsible for collecting, synthesizing and analyzing system data to assist in the development of strategic direction, and ensure the library’s strategic direction and goals are met in collaboration with management and staff.  Recommends adjustments, ensures approved strategies are translated into workable, practical and sustainable processes that enhance productivity and results.  Articulates the identification of overall quality measures that are instituted and/or realigned as necessary.  Participates in communicating organizational performance related to the strategic plan to internal and external stakeholders.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s degree from ALA accredited school of library or information science preferred, or Master’s degree in statistics, social sciences, or education. 
  • Five years of experience working in libraries; functional experience in conducting assessment and evaluation of quantitative and qualitative data; or equivalent combination of education and experience.

PUBLIC SERVICES MANAGER

The Public Services Manager is skilled in change management, future focused, customer centric with an understanding and vision for system-wide library services.  The position performs difficult professional work of aligning customer experience with communications, programming, outreach, and community engagement.  Has overall system-wide responsibility for developing and implementing a customer experience strategy focused on creating the best possible customer experience.  The Public Services Manager leads a team responsible for system-wide front line service to the public. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and motivate people, generate optimism, be solution oriented, understand and participate in the development of impactful services and assessment of services.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Required, Field of Study: from ALA Accredited school of library or information science OR in Public Administration.
  • Five years’ experience in a management/supervisory role.
  • Course work in leadership/management, or related field and considerable experience working in leadership and customer/experience success role.
  • Must apply for and maintain Indiana Librarian Certification, earning 75 LEUs (Library Education Units) within five years.
  • Experience with a multiple branch library system preferred, or combination of education and experience.

COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MANAGER

The Community Engagement department includes an Assistant Manager, Graphic Artist, Print Shop Technician, Outreach, Events Manager, Audio Reading Services Manager, Access Fort Wayne Manager, and the Paul Clark Non-profit Resource Center.  This position is responsible for developing strategies that enhance community engagement system-wide; oversight of all aspects of communication, including social media, branding, and marketing; participates in the development and implementation of fund raising strategies.  Contributes knowledge related to trends, issues, and practices in library events, community engagement and outreach, to support development of excellent and innovative library services.  This position will also support community-led programming and outreach opportunities. Acts as an official spokesperson for the Library.  Provides assistance to the Friends of the Library and the Foundation. Represents the Library on the Friends of the Lincoln Collection Board.

 

REQUIREMENTS:

  • ALA-accredited Master’s Degree in Library Science, the ability to obtain and retain an Indiana Librarian Certification (maintaining 75 LEUs every five years), and a minimum of three years of professional experience in a management role in a multi-branch system, preferred.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Marketing, Communications, and two years of experience in development of comprehensive marketing plans or advertising, fundraising or communication strategies, which include the use of social media.
  • OR, five years of experience in the development of comprehensive marketing plans, or advertising, fundraising, or communication strategies, which include the use of social media. Or, any equivalent combination of experience, training and/or education.

MAIN LIBRARY MANAGER

The Main Library Manager must be skilled at change management.  The candidate must be future focused, customer centric with an understanding and vision for exemplary public library service delivery in a busy Main library.  This position leads a team (Business, Science & Technology; Readers’ Services; Material Support Services; Holds; and Art, Music and Media) responsible for front line service to the public. The successful candidate will be able to inspire and motivate people, generate optimism, be solution oriented, understand and participate in the development of impactful services and the assessment of services.  Be an effective participant in creating a culture of continuous improvement.  Provides departmental and organizational leadership; serves on the library management team.

 

Requirements:

  • Master’s Degree Required, Field of Study: ALA accredited school in Library Science
  • 3 plus years of experience in professional library work.
  • Some experience in a supervisory capacity.
  • Must apply for and maintain Indiana Librarian Certification, earning 75 LEU (Library Education Units) within five years.
  • Interpersonal skills sufficient for attracting and retaining volunteers, encouraging staff members in their pursuit of excellent customer service to the public and for effective leadership of staff.
