SUBJECT LIAISON FOR THEOLOGY AND RELIGION

The position of Professional Librarian will embrace, support, and contribute to the vision and goals of the strategic plan in the pursuit of excellence in learning and discovery by providing professional research instruction and information consultation services for faculty and students in the Divinity School, Graduate Department of Religion and the Religious Studies Department of the College of Arts & Science. This librarian will have a particularly important role in undergraduate residential experiences and in its graduate and professional student equivalent. S/he will work with students and faculty in a variety of schools and departments across the university, but especially with graduate and professional students in the Divinity School. As one of a team of liaisons on the Divinity Library staff, s/he will help support two professional degree programs (M.Div and M.T.S), along with M.A. and Ph.D programs in nine areas within the Graduate Department of Religion, and a growing undergraduate Religious Studies program.
An understanding of faculty research and teaching methods across a variety of disciplines within theological study is required. An ability to teach research methods, utilizing specialized data and information products is essential.
· Manage collection development and maintenance activities for assigned subject areas.
· Support Undergraduate Residential Experiences.
o Provide one-on-one consultation services to faculty and students in undergraduate and graduate level.
o Plan, develop and deliver courses, workshops and orientations for students and faculty.
· Support Education Technologies.
o Develop customized course-integrated research, database and resource instruction.
o Create and maintain library documentation/web pages related to information resources and services.
o Provide other support for campus Education Technology initiatives as appropriate given candidate’s skill set and experiences.
All professional staff are expected to support and participate in strategic initiatives as an integral component of their responsibilities. These may vary in number and scope over time, and are a an increasingly substantive portion of the job responsibilities. Cross-disciplinary teaching and interdisciplinary program areas, particularly in Religious Studies, means liaison responsibilities will be coordinated with other liaisons, and faculty in other departments.
QUALIFICATIONS: The successful candidate will bring a combination of expertise and experience from both pertinent academic disciplines and library/information sciences. A graduate degree is expected, whether that is an advanced degree in a related discipline along with library experience, or an MLIS or equivalent with a combination of relevant library and academic experience. A subject area masters or Ph.D. is highly desirable, with a focus in theology or historical studies preferred. At least two years of related professional experience is required, preferably with experience in teaching, outreach and/or experience in meeting the research needs of students and faculty in religious and/or theological studies. The ability to work in a highly collaborative setting, excellent communication and interpersonal skills, and a strong commitment to service are expected. A wide range of computer and technology skills are now required for library professionals. Facility with the technologies and with databases relevant to religious and theological studies, and knowledge of current trends in library technology are required. A demonstrated proficiency in Education Technologies and/or Social Media is preferred. Ability to work with a variety of departments across the university and the libraries is important.
